A/C Hard Start Kit recommendation

Looking to add a hard start kit to my A/C unit, looking to see what anyone else here might be using and if there are any issues I should be aware of by using one.

Thanks in advance.
Neil

I would go with a micro air ez start if you're trying to run your AC on a generator. They're not cheap, but they're less than a second generator

Yeah, that's a little on the expensive side. Gonna keep my options open.

I installed this a couple days ago on my rooftop AC unit (13.5k BTU). I was reading someone's positive review of this and thought I would spend the $10.59 to get it on Amazon. I have to say, I'm impressed. After installation, I turned off everything in the trailer and hooked up my Champion 2000 inverter generator. The AC started and ran without hesitation. I was amazed actually. Now keep in mind the temp at my house right now is about 58 degrees so I had that working for me. I don't believe the AC would start with my genny if it were 90 out. Before I installed this capacitor, I tried to run the AC fan for a few minutes then start the AC and the generator would shut down right away. I'd say it was worth the money.

Thanks!

I picked up one of these during lunch at a local HVAC parts store, will put it on tonight and see how it works. It was under $10 out the door.

UPDATE : put the Supco SPP6 on last night. Outside temp was around 95. Using my gen, the A/C started right up, no overload on the generator. A/C is 15k. BTU and generator is a Champion 3400w Inverter Gen.

Was you generator not able to run your AC? Seems like you should have had enough wattage to power the AC. I'm debating getting a champion 3400 inverter myself and I've read many reviews saying no problems with 15k AC

It runs it just fine, was having an issue getting the A/C started, possibly due to the heat and having other things on? Issue is gone now.

Thanks Neil. Guess I better get the Supco just in case I need it when I order the genny.

It really does seem to start up a lot easier. Not sure why the dealers and/or mfgs just don't add them onto the A/C in the first place.

Anyone have experience using EasyStart and/or Supco SPP6, Relay Start Capacitor 120-288V using a Champion 2000W inverter/generator?

Thinking this would be easier to haul just one of my 2 generators when bookdocking.

I had the Supco SPP6 Hard Start Capacitor and my 2000 Watt Yamaha Inverter Generator would not start the 15K Ac on my trailer. Needed both running in Parallel.
I went and got the Micro-Air and WOW what a huge difference. No problems starting and running my 15L AC on a 95 degree day on 1 2000 Watt Yamaha Generator.

There is a lot of other threads on this. Do a search for Micro-Air
When ordering the Micro-Air, put AIRSTREAM (case sensitive) in the discount coupon and get $40.00 off.

I used this video as a guide. Was really very simple. Took all of 10 min and most of that was taking apart and putting back together the access panel and a/c cover. Connected the two leads and secured the capacitor.

I have mine mounted to the housing between the compressor and the fan.
Fed the wires thru the hole in the housing where the compressor wires pass thru to the capacitors.
The directions were easy to follow.
remove the start capacitor, then wire this up per the instructions.

Did you happen to take any pictures of your installation? I have a Coleman Mach3 Plus on my Whitehawk and will be ordering the Micro-Air soft start soon.

Just to add other information to this thread for those that are curious.

We have a Yamaha 2400 inverter generator. Our Jayco (new last year) has a 15k AC unit. The 2400 would not start it.

I added the Supco hard start capacitor and the 2400 will start and run it.

Thanks for the update. I too have the Yamaha 2000i, it is good to know that they play well together, before I buy one.
