added grab handle today

So I bought a Stromberg Carlson big grab handle At CW this week. Then set out to read about adding them here on JOF. Was disheartened because most said there was no wood there. So today I was feeling around and pushing on the siding and it was hard to tell if there was actually wood there. and suddenly I thought what about pushing on the paneling on the inside. Wah La. Simple and no doubt that there was wood there and not just right up against the door. went a couple inches in. Soooooo out come the tools and in just a few minutes Im showing DW how smart I am. Its solid as a rock too. Really happy because I was sure that I would eventually take a header out the door missing that little handle.

Thanks for the photo and info PonyExpress.

I bought the very same grab handle mostly for my wife, who has a bum knee.
I will certainly use your technique for locating the studs. My trailer is in storage right now, so it will have to wait until May.

Thanks for posting your mod. I plan to add a big grab handle on our front door. When going out the front door (about 10% of the time), I'm always expecting to grab a big handle that isn't there. The small handle saves my bacon, but some day I'll grab thin air and ...
