I've always wondered that myself. It's only recently that I've noticed them on higher-end boat trailers.

I think they believe that all of us break our trips into 4 hours max of driving per day and are off the road way before dark.

I would rather have my lights on the rear sides... I can't see directly behind my trailer anyway but I can see both side real good.

I would also run this by DMV to make sure what you are doing is going to pass DOT requirements...

Be ashame you have to remove something to pass Safety Inspection after spending a bunch of monies to install it and it ends up not DOT approved...

Has saved me a couple of time checking first...
