Battery boxes
Just picked up my new Jayco jay flight SLX 26bhss. It was brought to my attention during my walk through that the battery boxes did notify properly on the front od the trailer due to the curved front end, so they cut the lids with a zip disc so they fit.Needless to say this looks less then professional and the battery boxes are due to fill with water.Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem and what they did to correct it.

There are two battery boxes commonly used by RV dealerships. One brand has a very square top with vertical sides, the other brand has eased corners and and angle to the sides of the cover. Maybe you just need to buy a different style box. I agree, cutting a battery box cover to make it fit is pretty cheezy. At least boxes are cheap.

Heres a picture of the battery box, nothing major besides appearance, just wondering if anyone else has had a different solution to the problem.

Looks like they installed the square top style battery boxes. There is a good chance that the angled top boxes will fit that I referenced in my above post.

This makes me wonder if you drill drain holes in the bottom of the box, is there any problem if minor amounts of water occasionally get on the batteries? Does anyone have any experience/history with this?

I bought a Titan Manufacturing Universal Front ATV Steel Cargo Basket (FB2020) for $79 + 4 Group 27 battery boxes. Also bought a custom metal bracket and lock. Everything fit neatly between the exterior wall and the LP containers on my tongue. Had to cut the battery boxes a little to make the covers fit around the wires.

If your TT is new, I would request the dealer replace the box with one that fits properly without butchering the lid or at least remount the box so it sits forward enough to clear the wall. For me, that's not acceptable.

Yes you need to drill a small hole in the bottom of the battery boxes or the batteries will eventually be under water, if you get a lot of rain. Just don't tell the EPA that you did it.
I noticed that the newer size 27 battery boxes I purchased have raised vents at the top of the boxes which should keep the water from flowing into the box like the older models did.
Just my thoughts,
Don

X2!!
You paid a lot of money for it. The dealer should not be allowed to get away with that sloppy job. Call Jayco and see what brand/models of boxes they recommend. Then demand the dealer install the ones the factory designed it for!
