So for anybody that was curious, here's a quick video of the build of the shop where all these mods (and other stuff) happens. A work in progress to say the least.

Thanks Tom. Just realized I missed a few doors and such in the floor plan pic, but I'm sure anybody can figure it out.

So far, hadn't changed a bit, other than it's not quite as shiny. Still nice and slick, no shrinking, cracking, lifting or peeling and so on. I never posted where I did it over the vinyl insert trim on each side, but that's perfect as well. In other words I haven't had to touch the roof since I did this, other than a routine cleaning.

The same here John, nothing but simple cleaning with Dawn and a soft brush, and thank you again for helping me make my decision last year on my new RV FlexArmor roof.

I thank all of y'all for the replies and compliments. One question though. If you had an opportunity to go to work and it required moving 2 hours away, would you do it and leave this plus 25 acres behind, or would you try to start a true business in this shop? I'm faced with that decision now, or as of yesterday.

Is the job something you can't pass up or just a job? How would the move affect the wife's job status? Just a guess, but I think you'd be happier working out of your shop doing what you love. I could be wrong but that's my gut feeling without knowing all the details

I've gotta agree with Tom on this. Lots to consider. I guess if you wanted to see how the job goes, you could commute and see what your thoughts are after a few weeks and talk it over with the family. Just make sure you make it a family decision and do what's best for everyone.

John I agree with Tom. You know what you have there and would probably always wish you had stayed. Just seems you really truly enjoy doing the things in your shop.
It all comes down to YOU are the only one who can make that decision. You will figure it out...........

Good Luck
Jack

BigJohnD's Mods to 28BHBE

You can buy land and build another shop somewhere else... that's just material stuff. the question is if the job is worth the moving the family? If not give the home based business a shot. Prayers for ya as I know it's a tough decision.

Absolutely nothing. Waste of space. We have stored our loaves of bread on that top shelf above the TV since day one, but this got me to thinking a little. No problem. Take the microwave out, knock the panel out and build a shelf. Now, we have a bread shelf above the microwave, which frees up the other shelf and makes my wife very happy. I didn't stain and poly this shelf like I have other stuff in this thread, but you can't see it either, so I just left it bare luan. I really like it so far.
Hey John! I was curious how you mounted the piece of plywood in there as the shelf? I have seen that a lot of people have done this but cant find how they mounted it. Thanks for any help in advance!

3/4" x 3/4" wood stripping screwed in all the way around first. Just be cautious of screw length. The plywood itself is in 2 pieces since I couldn't shoe the whole thing in at once. Once the pieces were in, I just secured them with pin nails / small pneumatic nailer.

That makes sense, sounds pretty simple. 1 inch screws would probably do that job yeah? Maybe 1/4" plywood for the shelf?

Side note: Your shop is awesome! I got my whole office drooling over it lol.

I think I may have used 1" screws. On the plywood, I used 1/4" luan. No real weight up there. Oh, I did put 1 center brace (stripping) where the 2 luan pieces met in the middle. This piece was 3/4" x 1" I believe, secured by using a kreg jig / pocket holes.

OK, so the job offer isn't just off the charts. It's just a decent job with decent benefits. Is it worth moving my family, good chance it's not. I'd have to start over, which doesn't thrill me really. New place to live, which we can't really afford, new shop, unlikely, etc etc. The pay is considerably less than what my wife makes (Like half as much), so she'd still have to work part time RN to take up the slack. I'd be an 8/5, 5 days a week guy, so our free time would be considerably less. Right now my wife works 7 days on, 7 off, so we still get good quality time. I guess the offer got me a little excited since I only got 2 other offers in the last 13 months, for less pay than this offer. On top of all that, looking back at our history, we keep coming back here. We were down south, came back here, built a house down south, went full timing, came back here. I see a trend. I kept having withdrawals. I love my shop, my recliner, and Toledo Bend. I really appreciate all that commented on this. Although I've never met any of yall, all of this does help me think.
