Blue fridge fans. Love them.

Received my blue fan a week or two ago. With no drain tube my next choice was to go though the back of the fridge along the temperature sensor tube. First problem was that I can't see where it comes out the back. I could barely reach the area through the upper outside vent. It feels like the sensor tube is covered by tape of some sort. While I was able to push a stiff wire through I couldn't get the fan wire through. After an hour or more of trying I gave up.

I'm going to run it out the front, under the door gasket, and then under the dinette which right there. The converter is right there and plenty of 12V wires to tap.

Having a hard time telling on some models. AzJerry has a Norcold 302.3 and can not find the drain. I went out to Norcolds site and the parts lists references Drip tubes and Drip trays but they are "not shown" on the diagram.

Anyone try the RedGreenmethod where you take a pickaxe to the back of the fridge to make the holes for the wires?

A .22 round would make a smaller hole and a small piece of duct tape (The Handy Man's Secret Weapon) would finish off the mod nicely.

There is definitely no drain tube attached to the drip tray nor is there any obvious place where I drain tube would be. There are no holes of any sort in the tray.

That just seems odd jerry. I wonder where the designers thought the water would go?

I tried to push the wire out beside the drain tube but could never get it through. Seems I recall someone on this board did tho.

I also tried to push the wire out next to the drain tube. No way, the tube fits too snugly and I did not want the lining of the refrigerator to cut into the insulation of the wire. I also had to remove the plug from the bottom of the drain tube.

Is there any concern with running an electric wire in a drain tube that also carries water?

That would worry me.

I did the muffin fan mod last summer and had to remove my drain hose completely then ran the wire down and the hose back out. What a PITA it was to get the hose back through that tight hole that angels down by the way. It took about 30 minutes and over a dozen tries but I finally got it back through. I had to remove the critter cap before pulling it through then reinstalled it after back in.

The unit works as advertized and I just move it around throughout the week to keep the frost down. I have the little blue battery fan that I had prior to this mod and put that in the bottom to add to the circulation. Keeps everything nice and evenly cold.

That would worry me.

I did not want to put the wire down the drain tube, but I did install an inline fuse. If the fan keeps eliminates the frost build up, there should not be an water going into the drain tube. I am also thinking about drilling a new hole in the refrigerator to run the wire through, but for now I am leaving the wire in the drain tube.

I am not worried about it. It is not that much water and not that often. The insulation should keep it just fine. It is so little current and I have a very small fuse that if it should ever fail, I feel like it will not cause any issues.

Good info AZJerry....thanks for validating. So wonder what the best way to add on a fridge with no drain tube? I would be hesitant to drill or make a hole that I would hit something vital....
