Blue fridge fans. Love them.

Per all the great feedback I purchased one of the blue 12v fridge fans. Works great but still noticed it would only keep 1/2 of my fins from freezing. Decided to purchase a second one and have them installed on top of the fins blowing downwards. Now my fins don't freeze over at all, and the fridge stay right at 36* running it on the lowest setting.

I bought a blue fan thingy and also installed twin 120V muffin fans above the condenser coils. Made a big difference in the fridge temps.

I'm not thrilled with the alligator clip mounting method though. I'm thinking of how to make it better.

Since they work so well, one wonders why the fridge manufacturers don't include them hardwired in (yeah, I know, they're cheap).

I'm not crazy about the alligator clips either but haven't figured out a better way to mount them. At least by putting them on top of the fins blowing down, they don't take up any usable space inside the fridge. Please post if you figure something out.
Lady Fitzgerald,
I wonder the same thing. I would think they would take the same concept and maybe even offer it as a "Jayco add-on". Heck they could probably charge 5 times as much as the guy on ebay does and would sell the crap out of them just by having the name associated with. If 6 months from now they come out with, we get the credit. lol

I just occasionally move the fan if I want to defrost another section, but so far it has not iced up that bad overall.

As far as the clip - I think it works rather well. Good on/off switch..lol...simple yet effective.

Have any of you had to snake a wire out of the fridge to get a 12VDC connection? I have read the instructions on eBay, but I want to ask the "Jayco Mod Experts" how they did it on their units? What gauge wire did you use? Did you put an inline fuse on the wire?

I did it no problem. I think it was 20g wire if I remember correctly. I ran mine through the drip hose then directly into an empty fuse in my panel. On my camper the fuse panel is directly below the fridge. If I had not had that option, I would have tapped into the 12 volt line at the fridge and put a fuse at the tap - either way - I would highly recommend an inline fuse!

I also wondered if running the wire is as simple as it sounds. I would also like to put some sort of switch on the line so I can turn the fan off when it isn't needed. any suggestions?

I'm definitely interested in this. However, my Norcold doesn't even have a drain line to run the power through. I'll figure something out though suggestions are always welcome.

Just get one of these...never had a problem and the battery lasts a week or two running. You can get another one and flip the fan blade for excellent circulation and no frosting on the fins.

Are you sure? There should be a small white tray under the fins where the condensation drips into. On one side of it should be a small hole where it runs out. If you go to the outside and take off the panel, you should see a small rubber tube that usually goes into a little bowl.

What model fridge do you have?

Positive. There is a condensate tray but there is no drain of any sort.

It's a Norcold 302.3

azjerry,

I thought the same thing with mine. Try pulling the tray out a little and see if you can't see a drip tube then. Mine is in the left corner but almost impossible to see unless you pull the drip tray.

It is also very hard to see my drain tube. It is also on the left. I purchased one of the fans last week. It is now black. I ran the wire out the hole on the right side of the fridge, where the temperature sensor is. I could not find the wire on the back side. I ran it out that hole about a dozen times. Had DS come out and push the wire through the hole and still could not find the wire. The wire went through the hole (about 1/4 inch hole) without a problem, but I could not find it in the back of the fridge. So I decided to run the wire through the drain tube. This time the wire did not want to go all the way through the tube. I ended up pulling the drain tube out of the fridge. Still the wire would only go so far, so I sprayed silicone down the tube and guess what??? The wire slipped right through the tube. Reinstalled the tube and fed it back into the evaporation pan in the back of the fridge, then took the wire over to a 12 volt always hot connection and connected the wire. I still wonder where the wire went in the first hole??? Anyone have any ideas?

My drain tube has a tiny anit-critter thing in the lower end that I had to pull out before the wire would go through. It may be there to catch any solids and assists in stopping up the drain tube so the condensate will eventually overflow the catch pan. I'm looking forward to that.
I tried to push the wire out beside the drain tube but could never get it through. Seems I recall someone on this board did tho.

I ran the wire through the drain tube as well, but used small 22 gauge wire. It went through fairly easy.
