Bunkbed Guard Rail Pictures

A couple of members wanted me to post my bunkbed pics after I got them installed. I have to say, they turned out well and are very sturdy.

Took a 1"x12", cut it to the length I wanted (different lengths on the beds, due to the ladder on one of the beds), rounded a corner with a jig saw, sanded down the whole board (corners, edges, and both sides), stained with Cabot stain from Lowe's. Bought some 1/2", 3/4", and 1 1/2" woodscrews. Bought some standard closet shelf holders (I think one side is 11" long and the other end is 13" long). Screwed the 1x12 to the lip on the bunk itself, then screwed the rail to the shelf bracket.

Took about 10 minutes to install in the trailer. The time consuming part is the staining. I just put one coat on one side let sit over night, then did the other side the next day. I didn't use any urethane coating or sealant, I'm not a patient person.

Drill pilot holes for your wood screws. Also the bunk that tilts up, the 1x12 is about 1 inch from hitting the slide out ceiling, it fit perfectly.

Very nice. I am surprised Jayco does not supply something like this to protect them self from a potential law suit.

My lawyer buddy told me the reason RV companies usually don't supply bed rails is because of the liability issue. If they sold the bed rails and they were to fail, hello lawsuit. Therefore, if they don't have any, you can't sue them for faulty rails. These were a big concern for me, as I have a 2 and 5 yr. old. I didn't want a cheap looking store bought rail. I've got about $30 invested in these rails.

Decided we might need rails as well in our WhiteHawk....off to Home Depot for some PVC pipe and a little glue and spray paint and this is what we ended up with....this will serve our needs for those top bunks.....probably less than $10 spent to make two.

Nice work!

With our bunkhose units, We use a folding metal rail we found at a store that specialized in baby and kid stuff. it was designed to go under the bed for stability and that part folded to allow it to be stored flat under the bed when we did not need it. Worked fine for as long as we needed it.
Different approaches, but the same goal.

Sort of like placing a Beware of Dog sign in the yard . . . Should someone be bit and haul you into court, they would have a strong case that you knew and should have taken greater care to restrain fluffy.

Nice job making those baby bumpers

Great ideas and pics, just got (Oct 2013) 2014 Eagle HT 27.5BHS. Need something to remind grandkids they're in a bulk. I won't hear them with the door shut. Really like the hide-a-bed couch, you can walk by it fully open. Tows great with 2011 Eco Boost 8,200# HDT package.
