Bunkhouse screen Mod

Our darn kids keep kicking out the screens on the windows in their bunks. One is an egress window, the other is not. Has anyone come up with something to stop this from happening? My husband is tired of repairing screens each day.

If you get pet screen material it will lock in tighter due to it being thicker. Another option is get new cord and lock in the screen.

When I repaired mine I was able to get it in farther with the wheel then the factory did and it seems to hold up longer.

Yes, in their sleep. The mattresses are right up to the windows. (Poor design there.) It is usually a knee or a foot. We have tried lots of different sleeping arrangements in the last year we have had the camper. We have three kids, three bunks. The side of the camper with the skinnier bunks has the screen problem.

That was how it has been handled quite a few times. The trip we took last week proved it was not intentional- but three times in a week was tiresome. If all the bunks were the same size as our "wide" side, we would be fine. Oh, well. My kids must be restless sleepers. I was hoping other families had found a solution to this problem.

Maybe try lying a pool noodle cut to length at the bottom of the window on the bed with them. Secure with commander straps? Just a thought

Probably anything that would act as a "spacer"..to include a pool noodle...would work. A piece of luan plywood or plexi-glass maybe?

How big is the window? Would something like this:

...held on with velcro, work? It would protect the screen and still give ventilation, and is removable in case of emergency.

Honestly, I'd probably just remove the screens. No use having them in if you're replacing them on a constant basis. Short of putting the kids in swaddling, not much else you can do. Just a poor design.

Thanks for the responses. My husband is trying a few "spacer" ideas. We will need ventilation and bug protection at Assateague next week. I will share any "winners"!

This reminds me of when our kids did the same thing in their sleep. I became proficient at replacing the screens but then used aluminum screening which is much stronger and it fixed the problem. Good luck
