Detachable shore power conversion

Has anyone changed out their shore power cord to the detachable style? Today I purchased a Marinco RV Park Power 30 amp power conversion kit on Amazon. The current mouse hole setup is 5 1/4" diameter. I can't find any specs on the Marinco website that gives me the diameter of the large adapter.

I am tired of fighting the cord back into the hole.

I also want to do this, I believe it is a direct swap so you shouldn't have any issues just taking out the old and putting on the new, this is from researching it, but not seeing one. I have been known to be wrong.

I ordered the Marinco kit off Amazon and it came with multiple adapters to cover different size holes. I installed it last year and was very easy. Make sure you have some Butyl tape for proper sealing.

I left mine there and cut a new hole for the cord... that way I can run TV cables or solar cables etc into the rig.. very easily.

I converted mine a few years ago, same reason. I built mine from scratch, but now they have better kits you can purchase. I also installed mine so I can either select my 110VAC source from the shore power plug or the TT's inverter. Here is the link to my pictures.

Not an answer to your question, but...
IIRC, someone on this site shortened their cord to leave it long enough to plug into their generator (I believe). They then turned the part of the cord that was removed into an extension cord and stored that in a compartment.

I'm tired of fighting the cord, too, but leaning toward the 'short cord' idea.

Hey Mark-

I installed my Marinco conversion kit last weekend. The large adapter plate matches the 3 holes perfectly. It's an easy mod. Hardest part for me was to get up enough guts to cut that 30 amp cord. All worked out okay and I closed the mouse hole. Make sure you put the butyl tape on the large adaptor.
Next step is to open up the old cord storage area for more internal storage.

Happy RVing,
Jeff

Smile

My conversion kit arrived today. Took me about 30 minutes to install this kit. No more fighting the cord and knuckle busting.

How about just using a 30a extension cord? Just pull the factory cord out a couple feet and use extension cord to the power? Or is it just better to eliminate the cord all together? I ask because I have an extra 25' cord I can use..

Not sure about Jayco TTs, but our Greyhawk manual states that the shore power cord must be pulled completely out of the storage bin when in use. Coiled in the bin it can overheat.

Last time the Greyhawk was at the dealer I had them convert the hard-wired cord. I really like the detachable cord much better.

DIY conversion

I got the plug and socket as a kit, with no adapter plates. I made an adapter plate out of stainless, and covered it with Everlast. It looks good and is absolutely water tight.

Has anyone found a place to get a black 30 amp conversion kit? White and silver won't match the other black accessories.

Any idea what the diameter is on the shore power cord, the one you cut? Will it fit in a 1/2 inch conduit or do I need 3/4 inch? Thanks.
