My two units have been performing flawlessly for almost a year now and since they are designed for RV use, they do not have batteries.

I just changed my analog to a coleman digital and it was very easy wire for wire swap and like Ed said no batteries and no switch install for the high low fan modes. Well worth the extra money for the coleman especially if you are still under warranty.

Can't wait to get mine. I'll have it installed in under 10 hours - just kidding. I'm slow but not that slow.

How do you pull the analog thermostat off without pulling off the screws out at the same time?

The front of the thermostat just unsnaps from the base. The base is screwed to the wall.

Mine is securely attached to its base and I'm fearing that the base will detach from the wall before the face plate detaches from the base.

You might try a small flat blade screwdriver and try to wedge it between the front cover and the base and twist it to pry the two pieces apart. there could also be a notch between the two pieces for this purpose.

That did the trick, thanks.

OK, here is my installation. I had to use my hole saw and add another hole because the wiring on the new Thermostat was in a totally different place than the old stats location.

Thank you Tim. I copied your mod exactly and I love it. I got the thermostat on sale for 25 ans the switch for $3. Worth every penny.

Can I do this if my Coleman AC has dial thermostat on the unit? Right now I have a wall thermostat for the heat, and the dial from blue to red on the AC unit. So they are separate. Can I somehow hook a wall thermostat to my unit. I also would sure like to turn off the fan when the compressor turns off. I took the cover off the unit, and I see the connector for the thermostat. with a cable going up into the unit. Thats as far as I got checking it out.
Next to that connector, is another connector, that has nothing plugged into it.

Have a dumb question. I did this mod last night. Super easy, thanks for the detailed instructions. I did not run my system before the swap. My system is ducted in floor and ceiling. When the fan is on, should both be blowing? They are now. Honestly we have mostly camped with a/c and the vents on the floor are covered up so I never noticed it. For some reason I was thinking the floor ducts were the heat and the ceiling was a/c. I have a 99 Eagle travel trailer.
Thanks again for the great info

Something is not right IMO. The thermostat has a heat and a cool setting.
Never seen a scenario where thy both are on at the same time.

Your are correct- Floor ducts are for heat and ceiling are A/C. When you're running heat, you can close the A/C registers in the ceiling by turning the deflectors. As you turn them, they will retract up against the opening. This also permits you to reduce/increase the A/C airflow if an area is too hot/cold. However in my TT, I have all my ceiling registers opened fully when running A/C.

Both furnace and A/C should not be running at the same time. If they are, you made a wiring "boo-boo".

http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/sh...hp?t=19253Read through this thread. I too thought I didn't need the blue wire, turns out I did. I hope it helps.
Good luck.

I had a spare Honeywell digital thermostat and after seeing this thread I had to do the swap. It works great. Without shore power I am still able to run the furnace which is what I was hoping would be the case. It's nice to have heat in the winter even when there is no electric service.

I did the toggle switch thing to get low and high fan speeds. It works but wow it was super tight making that fit in this little thermostat. I had to cut away a lot of the interior plastic. But whatever... it works! [emoji4]
