My other trailer (Towlite) has folded seams on an aluminum roof. I ordered the 4" wide Eternabond and sliced it in half as the 2" was plenty for that type of seam. I was able to do do all the seams using 1/2 a roll. Now I have the remainder if I need it on my Jayco. I don't like heights either, the Towlite is 5ft when lowered so I am not sure about working so high on the Jayco.

Steve,

I'll make arrangements to have your post moved over to your "Jayco Slide Rubber Seal Problem" thread, then those folks following your thread are aware of your conversation with your Jayco dealership......., your post left in this thread may go un-noticed.

Bob

Eterabond Sealer Project

Bob,
Thanks for this post and the photo, even years later. My warranty expired on Thanksgiving on this type of project is high on my list. Great instructions, thanks.

travelingjw,

I traded my '05' Eagle in on a new Jay Flight fall of 2017....., and the original Eternabond application on the Eagle was still doing it's intended job, not a single issue.

I'm glad this thread got revived! I had a question:

Bob, it looks like you just went down right over the "trim piece" that's screwed to the side of the trailer. You know, the one with the vinyl insert? Did you ever have problems with the lower part of the Eternabond coming up? The edge of the E-bond that went under the trim piece? Did you ever have problems with the vinyl moving around under the E-bond?

That's one of the reasons I didn't do that to my trailer; I could never fully decide how I was going to handle that transition strip. I even thought about taking them off, laying on the E-bond, and then reattaching the strip. Mine had the "gutters" attached there, so I never pulled the trigger on it; analysis paralysis I guess...

I don't know if I'm describing it well, but I can see it in my head...

Anyway, I'm going to get over it and do my MH at some point in the not too distant future. I shouldn't have to worry about the sides because my Greyhawk has the fiberglass roof. But I definitely want to seal up the front and rear caps.

Camper_bob,

What my original pics didn't show was that I "didn't" apply the Eternabond sealer tape the full length over-lapping the metal trim/assembly piece in question.

My application covering the trim piece was about 1ft in length and was to provide additional protection around the four corners of the roof/sidewall joints. Back in-the-day those four corner areas were prone to issues. There wasn't any movement of any trim material that came in contact with the Eternabond tape (great adhesive).

What I did insure along the "top edge" of the metal trim piece (where it came in contact with the TPO roofing material) was that the Dicor caulk running the full length was always in good shape. I didn't caulk along the "bottom" edge of the metal trim piece where it came in contact with the sidewall.

The following Eternabond pic is of my 2018 Jay Flight which is very similar to my '05' Eagle application.

Ok great, thanks Bob!

I've found that the application of dicor to the roof of my Greyhawk was "light" to say the least. I've seen pics of other roofs where there was PLENTY applied, but mine is not so. It's almost like the technician was running out or something and trying to finish "one last unit" before re-filling. Never had a problem on my Jay Flight other than the standard maintenance. It's adequate for now, but not for long. Even the slightest defect is sure to cause a leak. I have one or two other projects to do up top where I want to change some things, and then almost all joints/openings are getting the E-bond treatment. Will do a writeup with pics when that happens...

I can say one thing now though, my corners are a mess. I'm probably going to have to remove what's there and reapply, let it cure and then put the E-bond over top. We'll see...

Here is another thread with some pics. I had a little input and some pics from back in 2016. Still holding good.
