Floor Heating Air Duct Covers
DW came up with a GREAT idea for the TT's floor heating ducts that rarely ever get used. We had some extra plastic storage containers, so she cut out a few pieces from each container the size of the air ducts. She then had some stick putty (real name unknown to me) that is used to hold the plastic to the air ducts. After one year, the air ducts are as clean as the day we purchased the TT, CLEANER as we had to vacuum wood dust from them originally. Keeps the dog hair out too! Crumbs from the kitchen counter! Change from the kitchen counter, and the list goes on...

I remember reading something in the owners manual that said to not block any of the vents to prevent to much heat from accumulating in the blower part of the furnace. Can anyone else add their thoughts on this?

I took the OP to mean these covers were to keep the ducts clean between uses. I wouldn't want to do that because I guarantee you I would forget to remove them prior to use.

For storage that is a good idea. If we leave our trailer next summer we will do something like that.

I was disappointed to find that the vents are made of plastic. I was going to use magnets like others have done. This might work for my purposes though. Using the furnace is pretty rare down here in South Texas.

Try some of that sticky Saran wrap. Just don't forget to remove it.

We tried a thinner plastics, but they did not last when walked on, and you are going to walk on them. These seem to be lasting the longest.

The in-floor heat register in my galley was steel, white and actually became so rusty (and awful looking) that I replaced it. I've had no problems with the other two in-floor registers.

We replaced our floor heat vents with adjustable (full on to full off) with these from Home Depot about $8.00 each. Now we have control over where the heat goes.

Happy trails,

It's kind of funny. The register in the bathroom is the only adjustable one I have; I would think they all should be adjustable, but then that would cost more...

The reason that they are not all adjustable is because there is a minimum amount of CFM that is needed by the furnace fan. This way you can not go below the minimum required amount without causing issues to the heating system

That makes sense. If you don't get enough air going over the heating coils, then you'll burn the insides up. Still it would be nice to close them off to keep debris out for the other 96% of the time when the furnace is not used. We've owned our trailer for less than two months, and I can see the funk down in the ducts...

I was dissapinted with the poor ducting Jayco did on our trailer. They had one run from the furnace heating the kitchen, living room and hallway. The other two heated the bedroom and bathroom. Had to keep the bathroom door open to heat the trailer. When I went to fix it I noticed several openings in the foil ducts. I ran the foil ducts inside expandable metal plenums and rerouted the runs. It has made a huge improvement. It required removing the bottom cover but it was worth it.
