hitch question

Ok im a newbee to the fourm thing been camping for about 2yrs now just bought our first jayco 287 bhsw and brand new trailer, it is our 3rd. So my question is i know the bumber is rated for about 100lbs, i got a 4 bike carrier, so ive been looking for a hitch to fit the trailer. When we got it a guy in the shop suggested to have someone weld up a hitch to the frame. The prefab ones are expensive i dont know how to search the fourm if someone could point me in the right direction.

Welcome to JOF

I would start with 'bike racks', 'bike mounting', etc., in the JOF search window, then check out the different threads.

Here's a start:

I highly recommend against welding to your frame for any stray voltage from the welder will ignite the insulation and you can loose your whole trailer to fire!

Do you know if a rear trailer hitch receiver was an option on your Jay Flight? Our 2015 27RLS Jay Flight offered one as an option. I didn't order that option, BUT our trailer has factory brackets on the frame for a bolt-on hitch. If you haven't already, take a look. There might be brackets already on the frame.

Personally, I would go to a welding shop and have them custom build a receiver hitch. It will be about half the price of the dealer. They also know how to properly weld, and construct it.
