Lowered TV which we thought was too high
Although we have been very pleased with our White Hawk TT, we felt the TV was mounted a bit too high, and we were always 'looking up' to watch it. Since the TV was recessed into the fireplace chimney 'stone' about 1/2 inch, and the backing for that TV opening was cherry veneer, this posed a challenge. We tackled the mod this weekend. I first shimmed the TV mount out about 9/16 inch (to clear the existing 'stone'), and lowered the TV about 7 inches. This left a 6 inch band of cherry wood above the TV in the middle of the 'stone'. We saw the solution at Lowe's Home Improvement. They are now selling a manufactured 'stone', named AirStone. It is very light weight, and easy to work with just a hacksaw. The pieces are 2 inches high, about 1/2 inch thick, and of various lengths. We fit these and glued them in the opening. We also added stone down each side of the TV since the wood could be seen when you stood near the TV. The AirStone was a little lighter in color than the original, but my lovely wife spent a few hours doing 'touch-up' with black and brown shoe polish! We are VERY pleased with the result. I don't think anyone would notice if they were not looking for the different stone!
