New Dinette Table (sneak preview)

I'm in the process of changing the configuration of our dinette. Here is a preliminary pic of the new cherry table top. I still need to stain it to match the existing cherry veneer. We got the chairs at Ikea.

Thanks... It's just the 2 of us and we'd never use the dinette for sleeping. Now we have comfortable chairs and more room because the dinette bench doesn't stick out next to the fridge.
I'm installing Saturday to get ready for a 2 week trip to Pensacola, FL. I'll post a pic next week.

Great looking hardwood table and that gives me the incentive to change out mine as I have the same interior as you. But in the meantime I'll just have my favorite beer as a tribute to the new table.

Great job! When with two people the dinette storage is useless. And also if you have a wheel well it is hard to fit 4 people on the table. Definitely have to discuss this idea with DW. Those dinette benches are hard on the butt and back anyway. I have to go the pine way with a couple of pine chairs. Looks like you used one leg and the other side is fasten to the wall?

I actually built a 6" deep box where my wife stores her MacBook and the new table mounts to the top.
I also made a storage compartment that runs across the top of the wheel well. I'll post some pics in a few days.

I just installed the finished table this afternoon in preparation for a 2 week trip to Pensacola Beach, FL.

The right side of the table is held up by a box that I built to store my wife's MacBook

I constructed a storage bin across the wheel well to hold my iPad, camera, tripod, binoculars, etc.

USB charging ports

I had to re-route some plumbing to accommodate the chair leg. This will be covered by a box.

The bathroom door can open when the chair is pushed all the way in.

Over time the cherry top will darken so it matches the existing cherry finish.
I'm going to paint the the walls and the boxes I just installed this winter.

We just got back from our 2 week beach trip and the new cherry table was a welcome addition. For those interested here is a fabrication & install video.

Great work!

Consider most of your idea swiped!

SWMBO and I consider the factory dining area uncomfortable and we don't use it for sleeping either.

A new (smaller) table top, firmly attached to a wall - great! Solves a bunch of problems.
Creating storage space by using boxes as supports - love it!

Question, how to you secure the chairs when underway?

Thanks. To be honest we don't secure the chairs at all and have not had a problem, but if you have a concern you could certainly bungie them to the table leg.
We were amazed how much more room we have without the bench next to fridge sticking out.
I still have some tweaking to do as far as storage box sizes and distance of table from the window. When all is settled we are going to paint all the walls inside and the new plywood storage boxes.

Considering how I drive. I'll have to figure something more effective than a couple of bungee cords.

You're probably right about finding something more secure. I have been thinking about laying them on the couch and maybe running a strap around the back. That would eliminate the problem of moving the chairs around when we have to stop for a pee-break on the road.
