Ordered A/C for PUP 1206, and Installation
My popup is lacking an AC. Unfortunately where I live it gets verrryyy muggy. Lately I have been browsing the internet and found a great deal on a Dometic duo therm brisk II 13,500btu AC top and bottom kit. For under 460 shipped couldn't pass the deal up, most importantly I will be able spend more time in the popup.
Now roof support bracket fabrication and upgraded electrical.

Welcome to JOF
Along with the new A/C, you may find the following product (they really work) a means of increasing the efficiency of the A/C:

Back in 2002 our new PUP didn't have a/c and we traveled from AZ to PA at the end of July. I do know what muggy is. When we got back we did the same as you and purchased one online but we had the dealer install it. He only charged us one hour of labor so that was a steal. DH didn't want to be the one to cut a hole in the roof. I have seen where people have installed the a/c unit where the vent is.
I also agree with Rustic Eagle, the Popup gizmos are great. If you do purchase get the high wind version. They also kept the condensation from
forming on the bunk ends.
We had our PUP for almost 10 yrs and loved it, but DH got tired of the tear down process so we traded just a few yrs ago.
Enjoy and stay cool.

I have the 13,500 installed on my Starcraft 2008 14RT OFF-ROAD POPUP and it did require the braces under the ceiling.
I wish I would have installed the 9,500 BTU model now. We camp alot off the power grid and don't use the 13,500 all that much. The 9,500 model would have run just fine off our 2KW Honda EU2000i generator if I had thought about it at the time. Also would have been less weight on the POPUP roof. The 9,500 BTU A/C would work just fine for us as we are not all into the air conditioning anyway... Lots of shade in the woods... I have brought along my 8,000 BTU window unit from the house on some long trip planned outings and it runs like a champ on my 2KW generator.
My trailer has the electric motor and it raised effortlessly before adding the 13,500BTU A/C. It still raises ok but makes alot of grunting and pop noise now going up.
Now I want to add to some solar panels to the roof so I know I will be adding more weight to it. My plan here is to permanently mount one 120WATT panel to the rear of the roof between the A/C unit and the back with the solar panel across the roof. Then add some unistrut pieces across the roof on the front where I can place two more 120WATT Solar Panels in-line with the roof on each side of my Fantastic fan install. This will give me 360WATTS of Solar Panels. I plan on making these two front solar panels with a quick disconnect so I can add them after I raise the roof. These two panels will also be my two portable panels to setup on the ground if i need to follow the high sun.
Just some thoughts...

With a PUP, instead of permanently mounted solar panel I would think about the larger prop-up portable panels. That way you can stay parked in the shade and you can aim it for better charging. I was told that if any one cell of a solar panel get shaded then the whole panel produces nothing.

Hello, sorry for the delay. I did install my AC and enjoy it very much. I have not installed a brace yet. I had a local metal shop put a slight arch in two pieces of 7ft square tubing. Also had them fabricate brackets. I rebuilt my roof also incorporating some reinforcements for the ac. I'll post a few pics.
No way the old roof would have enjoyed supporting a ac. Plus it was leaking.
The support bars will be placed in approx location of the cross support wood.
Installed! At 72lbs. Took like an hour. Put it on roof opening. Install bottom plate and run 10awg to breaker.
