Propane Tank Cover Modifications
Been working on the new RB 23 to make it ours. One of the most recent things I decided to do was make the Propane cover more user friendly. On the older travel trailers I've had with the automatic change over regulator the indicator was located on top ot the regulator and could be easily seen depending on the type of cover you had. On the new Jayco the cover has an access cover to turn the tanks on, however, you have to remove the cover to view the indicator on the lower side of the regulator to see if you have an empty tank or to switch to reserve if the indicator is in the orange and needs to be moved to indicate green on the full tank. In my opinion not to practical! My fix was to remove the cover and drill a 2 1/8" hole with a hole saw in line with the indicator on the lower end of the regulator. Once that was completed I found some Plexiglass scraps in my shop so I cut a piece to fit on the inside of the cover and overlap the hole I cut approximately 1" on all sides. I then drilled four 1/4" holes through the cover and the Plexiglass and also ran a bead of clear Silicone around the edge of the Plexiglass and secured it to the cover with some 1/4" lock nuts on the inside of the cover. Once that was complete I ran a small bead of Silicone around the outside of the cover and the Plexiglass. Now I can just walk by the front of the trailer and glance at the cover and see if the tanks are on need to be changed or switched over. This mod takes about 1/2 hour to complete and makes the life of a crabby old person much easier. I also added a flag bracket to the cover to fly our flag!
