Question on mods?

First a little back ground. In the early 90's I bought an IBM computer. I frequented a forum that dealt with different modifications that other IBM users were doing to their systems. There was a huge issue with there internal modem, and people had come up with mods to improve its ability. Well, someone started a class action lawsuit against IBM concerning the internal modem. I had done all the mods to my modem, and like every one else had posted about it on the forum. I live in South Carolina, but guess who got called to NYC to testify in the class action lawsuit. Yep, me! IBM lawyers had went through every post in that forum, and were using the information they gathered against the lawsuit. Anyways, just curious if anyone has ever been refused warranty work due to a mod they have done on their Jayco? Once your 2 year warranty, and or extended warranty is past all should be ok.

I have never been refused warranty work due to a modification. I do believe that maybe the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act may come into play. It is my understanding that warranty claims cannot be denied unless the company proves that the modification is what caused the damage for which you are making the claim. I am no lawyer by any means but even if the above is true...who has the most money to delay and drag this issue out?

Oh, IBM lost the class action suit, everyone that was part of it got $75.00. Just saying, sometimes manufacturers watch forums just to find out such things. Isn't technology wonderful!

I am sure Jayco watches this forum. I know for a fact that Fleetwood/Coleman watched the Pop Up Times website. I was contacted by a Fleetwood/Coleman employee about a post I had made.

Owners modding their trailers is like free advertising. To me it is a enthusiasts (a tinkerer) dream machine. As long as its not a safety issue, a owner can fashion the trailer anyway they please. I think it's fascinating that so many disciplines are involved ( electrical, plumbing, mechanical ,woodwork, engineering, hvac) all in something I really enjoy doing and that is camping and traveling to places I've never been before.

That came up in a discussion with my dealer while we were talking about attaching a bicycle rack on the frame. He did say if I make a mod to the frame and I have a frame problem Jayco might take issue. (While they don't necessarily come out for an inspection he said they do often ask for detailed pictures.)

Regarding the M/M Warranty Act if any company denies a warranty claim isn't the onus is then on the customer to go through the trouble and expense of getting the company to pay-up.
