Relocate BBQ gas line

Has anybody relocated the gas line for the BBQ? Mine comes out to a disconnect at the rear bumper. I don't like cooking out the back of the trailer and the bumper mount for the BBQ is just plain stupid.

Was thinking of dropping the line down from the frame and bringing it to the front DS of the trailer. I was thinking I'd just route it across near the axles so I don't have to make a new line and then route it back to the front.

Edit: changed my search words and found some threads about it, doing some reading now. Post here though if you completed the job on your trailer

I haven't but it shouldn't be difficult. I plan to get a gas grill I can connect to that line next season. Let us know how your reroute goes.

A number of threads show up searching "relocate bbq gas" but I haven't read them all to see if anyone actually did it.

I didn't relocate the line but I put a Tee into the threaded fitting where the hose entered the frame and ran a new line to the front of the trailer now I have front and rear connections. It's not a difficult job but the cost of a new hose with fittings was outrageous. I ended up buying a 10' hose with quick disconnect fittings off of Amazon for $25.

I just put a long hose on the grill.


No need to mod the RV. Just reach under the bumper to hook up. Grill and table live anywhere under the awning.

Where did you get the long hose? The longest I could find was 10 feet and I'd like one about double that.

I was thinking about looping it back up and placing it in front of the wheels, but then I got to thinking about it being pretty well protected back there at the bumper (protected from road debris) so I'm back to reconsidering that. I think I'll go with the 10 foot hose, found one at Amazon http://amzn.to/2bDf8xK if you need longer you can always buy 2 and plug them end to end. OR here's a 25 foot hose http://amzn.to/2bAtyln but you would have to put on the fittings.

Mine runs down the ODS from a distribution block under the kitchen slide area. I'll just remove all the hose supports are route it back to the front and across to the other side using the OE hose. I'd need a 30' extension to get it to where I want it. A 5' or 10' house will then work from the relocated QD.

Then I'll take the BBQ mount off the back and throw it in the corner of the garage with the BBQ that came with the trailer

I got it when I bought the grill at Lowes last fall. Yes it is about 10'. That's more than enough for my 19RD.

Buy 2. Lowes had the fittings to connect them.

Before you do that, take a tape measure and use it to describe an 8' arc with the BBQ fitting on the trailer as the focus. Everywhere along that arc is where you can comfortably place your grill.

Then try it at 15'. You'll be surprised.

15' would probably work. My obstacle is that my quick connect is to the rear of my bathroom entry steps so I lose several feet of hose just going under or behind them. I may see if a local propane dealer can make me a custom hose.

15' was a semi-arbitrary distance of how much real coverage a 20' section of hose will provide without pulling or kinking.

The fittings for low-pressure propane are either 1/4" NPT or 3/8" flare. Even though they are about the same size, you will never mistake them for each other once you see both side by side.

When you discuss this with a reputable propane dealer, they will definitely set you up with the proper pieces. Possibly even the correct quick connect that'll fit your RV.

Just buy whatever length of hose you want. You can cut your short hose in half, and with a couple of barbed nipples, you can splice in the long hose. Did this with mine after the same frustration of trying to find a long hose. Total cost to add 12' of length to my existing short hose was about $12. Remember, your gas is regulated at the tanks, so this is a low pressure gas line, no worries about splicing in a section of hose.

We have the Camco 10 ft hose for the grille which is good enough, and there's a 15 ft hose on the gas fire pit. When we're using the fire pit, I connect the two together giving me 25 ft of hose. Works pretty good.
