Satellite Dish Tri-pod
Material from chain link fence post.
Brazed section from one 18” length of end post and (3) 15” sections from top rail.
Mast from 42” section of line post (1.66 dia.).
Leg extensions (3) from 1” metal EMT about 20” long each.
Brazed 1/4-20 nuts to tubing for binders. Total of five.
The most time consuming portion of project was fitting the three legs to the mast holder prior to brazing.

I use tri-pod made of 1 1/4" PVC. The wood in gallon plastic bag is used for shims to level. Have level glued on just below dish on "T" visible in second picture. I have three sand bags w/about 3 lbs sand each I put on leg stands to keep wind from blowing dish over.

There's a lot of innovative talent among RV'ers. kcconawa made one out of PVC; I made one out of 3/4 inch pipe; I've seen mounts made from a piece of plywood.

There's more than one way to hit a satellite!

We like the low profile "tri-pods". Last summer in Milwaukee, a pretty strong wind came through and knocked our satellite dish over; no damage though. So now we're thinking of building low profile. Neat ideas here!

Hey RVHiker, I like your low profile using the heavy pipe. I built one similar out of PVC. It's also posted on this forum. I do have a problem with wobble, which your heavy metal pipe would eliminate. Hmmm, perhaps I have a new project.....

I just bought a surveyor's tripod which are heavy duty and easy to level. I took the easy way out. Also, the expensive way! lol But, I put up the large oblong High definition dish which I can't do without during football season. Would have hated to have been on dish this past year!

I took the easy way and paid a bit more, but I absolutely love my tripod system that I got from www.tv4rv.com.
The last two times I set it up I walked over to the TV to look and see if I had a signal at all and it was 98% on 101 and 96% on the other two. I have a slimline HD dish. I mean I didn't have to tweak it a bit. One shot and it was done. The compass that came with the kit and the bubble level make it so easy.
I have a half a concrete block I hang from the underside of the tripod after installing the dish and I have not had it move in over six months use.

Hey Ed, I have the same tripod. Would not trade it for anything. I also put up the heavier High Definition dish from Directtv.

I have the heavier HD Slimline dish also namusmc65. Attached is a picture that I took a few minutes ago. Yes, that is ice on the dish and a bit of left over snow in the background, but warmer weather is coming Sunday....Holding my breath for that.
I too wouldn't change my tripod for anything.

We have a tripod but our goal is to get the little box with a dome and satellite finder.
