Skylark Mods

Even though the Skylark comes with lots of storage space, we wanted some inside storage for seldom used items and food for our dog.

I noticed that the bench seat in front of the bed in our 21 FKV seemed to have lots of wasted space under it. I removed the plywood under the cushion and found a really nice large space. I made a 1/4 thick plywood insert to keep things from migrating in by the wheel well. I attached it to the aluminum frame with some sheet metal screws. Then I cut the plywood cover, adding a piano hinge and finger hole so you can open it. The result was about 9 cubic feet of new storage space inside the trailer.

Getting things out of the storage outside at night required using a flashlight. While visiting a Camping World store I found a nice push button led light that was pretty bright. I also found that there are four spare fuses in the electrical panel, so it was a simple matter to run 2 conductor wire out the bottom of the trailer underneath along a frame member and get up into the compartment under the bench seat by the table and run the wire into the storage area to connect the light.

Great use of that space that you could never get to very easily from the outside.
