Skylight Install

The kitchen in our TT was a very dark area even on sunny days, so I decided to install a skylight. I thought long and hard before cutting a 14" x 22" hole in a perfectly good roof, but I threw caution to the wind and when for it.
I could not be happier with the results.

Here is my Install Video.

Nice job! We have the same kitchen layout and I have contemplated the exact same mod. Thanks for the info.

Cheers

Excellent job! Your kitchen, bathroom, kitchen, bathroom part of the video made me laugh and I like the music too. You made the job look fairly simple and straight forward. Thanks for posting.

I admire your testicular fortitude. I'm not sure I would've been able to cut a hole in my roof.

Very nice job!!!

I was going to install one and then I decided that the one in the bathroom was emitting to much heat into the TT (120+ degrees) so I decided to hold off on the project for awhile.

If you do any dry-camping, you may want to make a couple of these thermal-board inserts for the sky-lights. Keeps the heat from getting into the TT.

Agreed... I was noticing the sun hit me in the eyes at one point. Pros and Cons to everything.

Love my skylights! I have the foam boards cut in case to much thermal heat is coming in. So much natural light comes in that I rarely need to use my TT lights until evening. That's a big plus for me when boondocking as well.

I'll do the same (just in case), but we tend to go to cooler climes in the summer (mountains, or north) and warmer in the winter... southern beaches.

Another nice feature is the horizontal blind that they factory install in the skylights. Nice for darkening the room if someone wants to nap/headaches/insert reason here. Next DIY project?

Just FYI... we have the optional factory skylight in our TT and REALLY appreciate the additional light. It has the the built-in horizontal blind. That blind filters out glaring light, but is not (IMO) a room-darkening blind by any means.

To reduce the heat and/or darken light from that skylight, and the one in the shower, we use portions cut from a windshield sun-reflecting shade. The horizontal blind holds the one in place and a couple of tabs of painter's tape holds the one in the shower. Low-budget, but very effective.

100% agreed, I actually slide my foam piece between the blind and skylight when going full dark

LOL!
I really want to put a fantastic fan into my bedroom, which does not currently have any vents. This video makes me want to give it a try!
