Stromberg Carlson - EZ Open Hand Rail
Anyone have any real world experience with this? It looks like a great idea, but I would like know if it works as advertised before buying one. I would hate to drill through my door(s) and then have it not work very well.

Just installed one on our 2007 Designer, and it works great. You can stand flatfooted on the ground and open the door. It was a little bit difficult to install with one person due to needing to mark the door locations for drilling and holding the bar up at the same time, but the results have been great so far.

Thanks. Since that was your first post, I have to ask - you are not affiliated with stromberg carlson in anyway right?

Great - welcome to the forum. I was a little worried the clip that mounts to the door handle would be prone to breaking. My doors are a little on the tough side to open. I was also a little worried the door handle would get the paint scrapped a little from that clip. Have you seen any wear? Thanks again.

I wonder how much my rig would weigh if every addition like this would have to hauled down the road?
I guess there is a market for it but I like to just open my door the old fashioned way as I rough it.

I have 2 on both my doors. They work, but you cannot hang on them as the tab that locks behind the door pad latch will break. They did send me a new set of them FOC under warranty. It does make it easy to get in the camper when the hard door is closed. No help with the screen door if the hard door is latched open.

Nunyadamn....
I've only had it installed on our rig for two weeks, so long term wear hasn't been a problem yet. My door is easy to open, but the attachment clip is a reinforced plastic of some kind and if you hang on it you can see it bend. DW is very pleased with the function, and that's what counts here.

Pleasing DW is all important but it can keep you very busy!

Wow.. That name sure brings up memories.. SC used to manufacture telephone's and business phone systems way back in the 50's - 80's... Don't know if there are any old telephone people here who remember that... With an unusual name like that I can only assume it its the same company.

I looked at the video and to me it looks like the handle would work.
But, I can just picture a kid swinging on that handle and in that case I think either the handle will break or the aluminum door hinges will bend.

Wow Tex, you're showing my age. I worked for GD Communications back in the 80's and SC was also owned by GD. We installed some of their business PBX equipment. Before that, they were the supplier of phones to a lot of the independent telephone companies behind AE and WE.

It is a effective IDEA, but what about the UV rays on the plastic?
Simplicity:
Drill a hole in the door handle and put a rope through it; simple and effective. Less weight less money. You can pull the rope out before travelling.
Ideal would be a 36 x 36 landing in front of the door. Where's all the roughening we use to do..........or are we getting up there?

I think I will be buying this product. $50 each is not a bad price.
Someone should make the outside door and screen have handles near the bottom of the door on the outside and up at the current locations on the inside with a bar or something connected on the inside that opens both. That way you wouldn't need to be on the outside stairs at all to open the doors. I am short and so is my family.
Roughing it? What's that? I bought a trailer so I didn't have to rough it. Roughing it for me is using my generator to watch satellite TV.
