tlhdoc-- Maybe it's the hinge that I used that allows the top to go back beyond center therefor under the mattress. The mod pics were before the " board on the hinge" trick, maybe they show " under the mattress". Larry

Larry I get it now. I usually just lift the mattress (so I don't mess the bedding up too much) and hold it up with my head, and then hold the board up with one hand and that leaves me with one hand to put items in and out of the storage area. If I folded the mattress in half it would work the way you do it.

tlhdoc-- we don't fold the mattress, just lift the board & the mattress at the same time & let the board go under the edge of the mattress and it will stay up. Larry

tlhdoc--- ya it's simple alright, so simple I removed the hinged " holdup" pce of wood. I'm one of those " keep it simple stupid people". Larry

We bought a new-to-us 19H last week, after reading this thread I am tempted to stop by the storage lot on my way home and try this today. Aw, guess I can wait until tomorrow when I get it for the holiday weekend. Great mod!

We have had are 23B for a month. When I was talking to the dealer as we were looking it over I mentioned what a waste of space. We are planning to do a very similar mod to the front. I will cut the top board shorter. To keep the end foot or so fixed and then hinge the rest. I am also planning to place a bottom shelf in it at the same height as the dinette seat (wood). Finish off the inside (similar paneling). We are planning to store our bedding in that hold.

Jagiven-- I also cut the top board about a foot in therefore allowing the top to open up all the way. Larry
