USB outlet

Found a USB outlet the other day. Installed one in the wife's house and decided I would also put one in her RV. Gonna try to download some pics.

Used a dremmel tool to cut my hole. Used a standard double gang box. It has the prongs on the back for installing into an existing wall.

Where did you buy the wall outlet? That's something we all need in the TT and the old home.
Looks like you beat me with your last post. Also all of your 4 screws are vertical so you just passed your electrical inspection!!! I'm not going to fine you for not having a ROMEX staple within 6" of the box thou, that's a hard place to get too.

Well don't look too close or I'm sure you'll fail me. My Dad's OCD kicks in sometimes. The outlets are fairly easy to install. When I installed it in the house in a single gang metal box, it filled up the whole box. Kinda tight fit but works nicely.

It looks like it's a combination USB and 110v outlet. 2 USB and 2 110v plugs per outlet? That's beyond clever!

Beejayca. I removed the radio, tied into the outlet for the tv, then ran it over to the new outlet box.

Much to my surprise, Jayco now has them as standard features in the new units. I've put three in my kitchen to help reduce the plethora of wires and chargers. Be careful which one you choose. Some have less capacity and will not charge iPads. Be sure to compare ratings before you purchase. As tgallaher mentioned, they take up the whole box. If putting in a new fixture, buy a deeper or oversized box to make install easier.

Lowes Home Depot has a great source of USB OUTLETS

https://www.google.com/#q=USB+OUTLET...depot&tbm=shop

Have installed a few here around the trailer and house as well... Plenty of 120VAC USB adapters also at WALMART and LOWEs....

Good point. Ipads are real 5v power hogs as compared to other USB charge devices. The OEM Apple Ipad charger is 5 vdc 2.1 amp. Many USB adapters and chargers are only 0.7 amp or so.

Were I to put the effort into installing a combination USB/120 volt receptacle I'd look for the USB unit to be 2 amp minimum. That said, adapters with power strips is what we use.

Check out this new device coming out. Pretty slick. http://www.thingcharger.com. Can charge tons of things, with different adapters, but looks nice.

As a gadget guy and traveling sales guy, I have a lot of thing that need power. While not as slick as this solution, I rely on the Anker usb Chargers with the PowerIQ option. No need to worry about what outlet the device is plugged into it will get what it needs.

My new 2015 29QBS came with a dual USB charging outlet from the factory. The placement is a pain in the neck (underneath the counter in the kitchen area), but its nice to have them!

For hard to reach usb plugs, you can purchase usb extension cords that are about 18". Quite handy.
