First trips

These were the first trips out with our new 2015 Jayco Whitehawk 24RDB. The first trip was to the Fort Leonard Wood Recreation Area on Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri and the second trip was to Meramec State Park Missouri. So far we are very happy with our first travel trailer. My wife refers to it as our little box

Thanks to everyone for the comments. We have really enjoyed it since we got it. Now it is getting ready for its long winter's nap.

It surprised me but my wife is actually sad that the camping is over for this year.

I like it, nice setup too, I'm just waiting for my wife and I do some camping. We have being talking about it, and know some of the places that we planning on camping but just don't have the trailer yet, man I envy you.

Hard to tell from picture, but it looks like the awning is touching the slide? I hope you have some sort of 'edge guard' so your awning doesn't rip or wear out where it makes contact with slide..

Nice combo, how does the Eco Boost pull it. Best of luck with it.

We were very happy to get it and love the combination. The camper is just the right size for the two of us.

It is a visual illusion. It is very close but does not touch. We also bring the awning in when it gets windy. If we are under trees I normally won't even extend it.

Thanks, we really like it.

The Eco-Boost does a great job pulling it, you don't even know the trailer is back there. The torque curve comes in very low so at 65MPH you already have over 90% of available torque so it pulls in sixth gear without having to downshift. On flat terrain you can even set the cruise control and it will pull down the highway without the constant shifting between gears. Of course you need to make sure you engage the tow/haul mode of the transmission. The engine is rated at 420 ft/lbs torque and 375 HP. The torque curve is closer to a diesel engine than a gas engine. So far I am very impressed with the truck. The transmission even has a sports mode that makes the truck run more like a sports car, very quick and responsive. My wife hates it when I play with it in the sports mode.

Our first trip out, the truck had just a little over 1000 miles on it, we were bucking a headwind and it was mostly interstate at 65MPH and we got 8.6MPG. By the time we went out again the truck had a lot more miles on it and it was fairly calm and we got 12.2MPG. That was mostly two lane roads at 55MPH. The last time out we went to Memphis so most of the trip was interstate at 65MPH and we were bucking a strong wind again and we got 10.6MPG. I am getting 18.5MPG driving around town but I have no idea what it gets on the highway without the trailer because I haven't made any long trips with it without the trailer.

Ford did a great job with there Eco boost engines, Everyone who has one seems to rate them well and praise them highly. I am waiting for the 2017 Super duty to come out with the aluminum body. Might consider trading my truck in then. I really like my current truck its an 08 with 20,000 miles on it. The Diesel pulls like a horse. The best part is its mine I owe nothing and the new truck we are considering is up in the $70,000 dollar range. New trucks are priced ridiculously. That is a hard pill to swallow. Thanks for the info, best of luck with everything.

I know what you mean about the price of trucks nowadays. I about fainted when I priced one. We decided to put a lot down and then finance the rest at 2% because we haven't had a loan in over eight years and I wanted to keep our credit reference in good shape. Although I am considering just paying it off because I hate having monthly payments.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
