Jayco 23J

Hello!

New member here.

Bought our Jayco 23J in May and took are first big (for us) 10 day trip to Mammoth Mountain, Lake Tahoe, and Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Being from southern California, it was quite a haul. the Tundra handeled it great. The trailer is awesome. Not one problem.

Didn't want the trip to end.

I'm from Ramona, Ca (just northeast of San Diego).

Owned a class A before (1999 Newmar Dutch Star) but it wasn't conducive for anyone beyond two people (we have a 12 year old daughter).

This trailer is a blast. Lots of room, since the beds are on the ends and do not intrude upon the 'living' space.

Since we have "tent ends" it was quite exhiirating listening to the grunt of a few bears walking by late at night (in Mammoth) to attack the trash bins near the showers.

Just awesome!

Mark

We had a bear sneak through our cg one night back in our tent days. We found out about his mischief the next day when the ranger came 'round to see how everyone faired.

We occasionally camp with our older granddaughters who are 8 and soon to be 10. The 3 yr old will join us on our next "kid" outing now as he is finally poopy-trained!

Glad to hear you are having a great time with your Jayco!

JP,

Yep, Richardson's Sun City. About an hour from home.

They were pretty good on the sale. (YMMV).

I may have to take you up on that! It's a bit tougher now that my 12 year old is in school, but I'll keep in touch.

Where the heck is Cherry Valley??

You know where Oak Glen is or Beaumont-- Yucaipa? We are sandwiched between them-- 3000 feet up the mountain.

Barton Flats is a great spot-- it's about half way up to Big Bear. Best news is that the sites are flat and all you have to do is buy a Wilderness Pass for 30 bucks and you can camp up there for 14 days at a time for the whole year. It's pure boondocking but there is a camp ground where you can dump and fill up with water about 3 or 4 miles away.

Joe and Mark,

Are you familiar with Wilderness Lakes RV Resort? It is just south of Sun City and down the road from Richardson's. When we head down to Richardson's for warranty work, we wind up camping there for a few days. Not quite "dry camping" but a neat cg with fish stocked canals. Grandkids love it there

Healthi,

This is a Thousand Trails park, correct? If I were to stay there, I guess I have to sit through the sales pitch? Actually i stayed at a TT park several years ago when we had our Class A - in Cuyamaca State Park. It was a fine stay. Only downer was no water in the fishing pond (drought that year).

How's the cow population there these days? Do you "notice" them much?

Mark

Yes, Mark. It's 1000 Trails. I was thinking non-members could stay there but pay market value for their site, but now that I think about it, I might just be remembering someone who was a "guest" of a member. I know at Rancho Oso near Santa Barbara, non-members can stay but pay full price.

We stayed at Wilderness Lakes in the Spring and noticed fly's (we think from the dairy). We returned in June but didn't notice them for some reason. The cows are definitely there but the cg isn't downwind, so you couldn't smell them!

Not a touristy area. It takes us 4 hours to drive down for warranty work, so we like to combine a camping trip with it and WL is just down the road. It's a nice place to relax for a few days. Our grandkids really like it there, so we will probably take them every summer now.

JP,

Mark here from last year! This summer's trip was Flagstaff, Sedona, and Grand Canyon. Early June so weather was still somewhat mild. I heartily recommend the drive to Sedona, stopping at Slide Rock. Look it up. It is a blast!

Can you give me more info on Barton Flats? I went online and it look slike it is first come first served. I would hate to haul everyting up there and get hosed!

Most of my camping is sans hook ups, so I have no problem with that.

Years ago when we had a class A we camped at Big bear. Nice.

Mark
