4" square tube rear bumper

We have a 145RB Jay flight SLX (Baja Edition). It has a 4 inch square tube rear bumper on the back.
The bumper came with 4 inch square black plastic caps on each end. We store the sewer hose in the bumper.
The basic problem that I need to solve is this...How do I keep the plastic caps from bouncing out on rough roads? They have nearly fallen out already and I don't want to have the drain hose fall out on to the highway.
I have thought of several possible solutions. But , I would think that other owners have already solved this issue.
I'd like to hear of possible ideas on how to retain the caps in their positions in the bumper.

I drilled a hole in the top of the bumper, through the end cap, and then use a cotter pin to lock in place, you can use a nail, screw or many other possibilities.

Like Flyrotor said, you can find an alternate way to keep in in. Please don't use a nail though.

Good thought, nails fall out, tires go flat... stick with the cotter pin, you can find them at any hardware store

Drill through the bumper and rubber plug, top and bottom then use a piece of wire coat hanger long enough to go through the whole thing. That way the bottom can't pop out and the plug slip off the top pin and fall off.

Knock on wood, I haven't had any issues with mine falling out. I've got about 3-4000 miles on it so far.

I bought those end caps at Amazon, they fit very tight and discarded the ones from factory, good luck with the nails...he he

I haven't tried this personally - but you might want to consider gutter spikes. Gutter spikes are 10" aluminum nails (ultra lightweight). They would be easy to work with to cut down to length and shape / round the end into a non lethal road hazard. When you drill through the bumper and endcap....drill at least one of the end cap holes undersize so the spike stays snug.

You should be able to get gutter spikes at any home improvement store

Never thought about the coat hanger idea. I like it!

Thanks for all the good ideas.
I purchased a set of covers that have plastic doors on them.
I kept the old covers/plugs and will try the drill and pin method if these new ones fail.
