Awning question....is this normal?

When we picked up our 197 last August I noticed the front awning arm wasn't retracting tight against the sidewall compared to the rear arm. It is an electric awning and made by Dometic. I know there is a recall out on Dometic awnings and i called them with the required info and they stated my awning is not involved with the current recall campaign. During our walk thru inspection, I mentioned this to the dealer and he stated it was normal because the rear arm is where the motor was. At that time I could manually push the arm against the wall and it would spring back out approx 1/2 - 3/4". Today while walking around the camper, I noticed the arm is out a little further than last year, about 3/4 - 1". I extended and retracted the awning a few times and the front arm still stays off the wall more than compared to the rear arm.

Has anyone experienced this? We are going on a trip in 2 weeks but I could wait until we return to bring it in to our dealer for warranty.

I have attached a few pictures to show what I'm talking about. Maybe it's nothing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mark.

We have a 221 with a 16' awning made by Dometic and it's not like that, the arm's are retracting the same, uptight against the sidewall.

Not normal. I would get it adjusted under warranty. Especially since it was discussed at PDI.

Not normal. The awning on my 2011 Pinnacle did the same thing. Repaired under warranty.

Noticed same issue with front arm in my case during the dealer walk-thru. They tried to adjust but couldn't fix. They put me up in a hotel for the night and installed a complete new awning the next morning. Said the initial one was defective. The replacement tugged tight to the sidewall with both arms.

Ok here is the update regarding our awning....Brought the TT in a few weeks ago and the dealer determined the awning canopy was cut too long on the front end of the tube. The dealer extended our awning and measured the fabric on both ends and the front end is about 1/2" - 3/4" longer than the back. As it stands right now the dealer is waiting for a call back from Jayco on how to proceed. He also stated that Jayco may say just to live with it. I'm not going to get excited yet until I have an answer. The dealer seems to think its not a big deal being out that far....I do. The power awning is made by Dometic, So depending on what answer I get from Jayco, Domectic may be the next call.

When the awning is extended and you stand back and face the side of the TT, that front side of the awning is lower than the back. Something isn't right.

Any advice from anybody here in the forum?

Mark

Persevere, You have done nothing wrong. It is on the manufacturer to make it right by doing the right thing.

Absolutely do not let them tell you to live with it . You paid premium price for s product that does not work right. You have every right to have it repaired or replaced to your satisfaction.

Final update on our awning...after some waiting, Jayco said the awning was fine the way it is. After a "firm" conversation with the dealer, Jayco agreed to replace the awning canopy. I am picking it up tomorrow and bringing it home to put it to bed for the winter. I'll never know but I just wonder why Jayco was reluctant to replace it from the beginning. At this point I don't care it's done.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone

Mark & Carolyn

After you retract the awning just go and slap the 2 arms to get them to go into place IF you are going out on the road. that will lock them in place.

We did that in the beginning but it would spring back out. I went and picked up the TT today from the dealer. The old awning was definitely cut longer on the front corner. The tech laid out the canopy on the floor and showed me. In the beginning I thought the support arm was slightly bent.
