Frustrating propane problems with Swift 154BH
Hello friends,
2nd trip of this year and already facing challenges for starting the stove and water heater. My first trip was very much successful but this trip has got me very frustrated. I tried to light up the stove, got full flame for a few seconds and then it extnguished. Having experienced the same kind of problem last year, & with the advice of few of our forum members, I was able to get the stove and the heater started, but this year I just cannot get them going. Get a good flame for a few seconds and then it dies out. I did this exercise all day long but just cannot get a full flame. No hot water or no cooking on the stove is very frustrating... Any suggestions?

I had the same problem this season - turned out to be an obstructed high pressure hose.
Assuming you have a full tank - and have tried switching tanks with the same result - then it's most likely the high pressure hose or regulator.

Regulator not maintaining adequate vapor pressure? How old is your trailer, and have you ever had a pressure check performed. IIRC, the vapor pressure in the system to operate everything LP should be 11" WC. Know this isn't a lot of help if you're on a trip, but that would be the first place to begin checking..........by an experienced service tech or LP service tech, that is!

I also had a blocked line. It was the line that was I midst
Y between the propane bottle and the regulator. I was able to clean it out with some bailing wire and a pair of water pumps. I think it had gotten so hot, that the glue inside had melted.

These regulators have been known to fail with symptoms like you are describing.

If you ony have one propane tank on your rig, a extra regulator and high pressure hose are a couple of really good items to carry in your spare parts box. Neither is that expensive and it can save a camping trip.

If you have the new style propane tanks, you need to crack open the valve on the tank slowly and then open it all the way. Opening the valve too fast will activate the safety on the tank and stop the flow of propane. I was having the same problem until I read my tank manual.....

^^ This.
And try replacing the pigtail. They're 7 bucks at any camping/trailer shop. My original pigtail failed after 9 months. Bought a new one after I experienced the symptoms the OP described.

When our trailer was new we had a similar problem. Turns out it was the flexible hose from the tank to the regulator.

Had the same problem. Just installed a new hose (pigtail) from tank to regulator and it works great once again. It's forums like this that gets us back to camping.

We always had the same issue with our 154....we now do the crank slowly open "trick" and then let it sit for like 15 minutes, then it works, it seems like the gas needs time to run through the line.

Well never heard of the crack it slow thing, might have to try that. I usually just let her rip when opening the valve lol

I learned thru the school of hard knocks about opening the tank slowly. I have a "spare" pig-tail as a result. Our symptom tho was no gas at all. The flame for a few seconds after lighting sounds like the regulator might be the culprit.
