Furnace and battery gr24
How long do you think that I can run my furnace at let say 65 degrees ?
Im planning to spend the month of feb and march in florida, but since Im leaving montreal I am expecting 2 cold night during the trip.
Do you think that we can recharge the batt, through the trailer plug during the second day to have enough power on the second night ?
if not its going to be a motel...that I would prefer to avoid
Thanks for your input guy

Its really going to depend on how many times your furnace blower runs and how long your drive is on the second day. A group 24 battery doesn't last very long and you should not discharge the battery more than 50%. You can purchase an inexpensive digital meter and check the battery on the morning after a night of camping to see how it did. All I can say is, give it a try .

Are you going to be spending the nights with an electrical hookup? If so, you might do as we did over the weekend and use a small electric heater set on low since you're paying for the electricity anyway and save your propane, or a combination of gas furnace and electric heater. We used the electric heater and had the furnace set on about 62-65 in case the heater couldn't keep up.

Yes. While driving, the TV does charge the trailer's battery.
Several hours of driving should overcome the furnace's fan usage from the overnight.

I'm expecting the first night to be really short let say 5 hrs since we want to drive away from the snow as fast as we can ? than a good 10 hours drive the second day......hopefully its going to be enough to recharge the battery a little . Anyway if its not enough there is always a motel somewhere

Well if you have access to the TT, why not do a trial run. Fully charge the battery, turn the furnace on, set the thermostat to 68 or lower and keep checking the battery voltage.. when it hits 12VDC you know you are out of power.
If you do not use the water pump or leave a bunch of lights on (use only one), don't play the radio (another amp user, depending on the volume) it may be close.

Five to ten hours of driving will definitely recharge one battery. When I use my diesel with a large alternator my two batteries are charged back up in a couple hours.
Anyway, if you are at a Flying J just start your vehicle and let it run a bit if it gets low and you will be fine.

If day two is a 10 hour drive, it will be fully charged.

You really need a bigger battery. We drained the OEM battery on one night and was only getting a humm from the fan the next am. Temp was only 18 degrees and it was 6 below when we left home earlier in the day. Charged back up on the10 hour drive on day 2 but when its really cold, 1 battery can be sketchy.

Temperature difference inside vs outside of TT over a 24 hour period
I keep a remote temperature sensor from my weather station in the TT, just to see what the temperature is. Since the Home Control PC stores all the data, I was curious as to what difference was between the outside temperature and the interior temperature for a 24 hour period. So, there was no heat or AC used just let the TT sit (closed up) as it does every day. I hate to see what the temperature difference would have been without the "GLACIER PACKAGE" option.
Sorry "Northerners" this is Florida winter temperatures, but it will give you an idea as to what you are up against.
