Yamaha 2000 works great but not for the AC. Will run a space heater and lights or a MWO and lights but not Space Heater and MWO at the same time. Runs flawlessly and I used quite a bit for 3 months this hunting season

I bought 2 Yamaha 2000is, which together give you 30 amps output. (Same as 2 Honda 2000s) Went with Yamaha because I own several other Yamaha products (motorcycle, AV Receiver) and have been very happy with them. Light weight and quiet.

Hey there BCx213: I'm a new x213 owner just this month living in the Lower Mainland and considering a generator purchase given it's seemingly impossible to get a BC campsite with power and I want something to back up my single deep cycle battery. From your posts you've got some experience in the power draw needs of an x213. What's your thoughts on a 2000 vs 3000 generator? I'm not thinking A/C is going to be a big need here in BC, but lights, tv/electronics for the kids, Microwave, and a fan would be the typical draws i'd expect for some 4-5 day boondocking. Do you think a 2000 generator like the honda would be adequate?

Thx
Steph

^ I use a Honda EU2000 for exactly the items you mention. No issues at all.

Thanks for the quick response. Could I get away with less than that in terms of a generator? I'm weight/payload challenged between my trailer and my tow vehicle so i'm always looking at potentially lighter options. I keep trying to think of other power draws i'd have that would impact things, but that's it beyond a tassimo coffee maker or a charging batteries.

If you are willing to give up the microwave then you can get away with a Honda EU1000.

EU2000i = 47lbs
EU2000i = 29lbs

These are real big and heavy generators, plus there are very quite.

Hi Steph, my champion 2000 k did not run my microwave, it would just kill the genny....not even close for the AC unit. The Honda 2000 is a better generator than my champion and will more than likely run the microwave. For the money, get the Honda 3000is. it will run your AC and microwave. If you want a 3000 k genny for a decent price, Costco has a Champion 3000 k genny for $799.00. It is a invertor genny and runs at 58 dbs vs 53 dbs on the champion 2000. 58 dbs is the average talking noise level. I did buy the champion 3000i and tested it, I set it out of economy mode which ran it at full volume and it was quiet in the trailer and was decent outside too. It ran the AC so it will run microwave, i did not run both at the same time. This genny weighs less than 100 lbs full of gas and 67 lbs empty. Just remember, provincial parks have a 9-11 am and 6 - 8 pm run times only. I recommend that you do not allow more than 50 % discharge on the battery. Because we dry camp most of the time, I changed my lighting to LED to conserve battery power too.

Steph, I forgot to mention congrats on your x213, just so you know, my 2000 watt Champion was fine for charging the battery and sufficed for our needs since we do not use the AC or microwave. I ran the fridge on propane only and the heat sparingly, the blower will eat up the battery charge in short order. Alice Lake and Porteau Coves are the only two Provincial sites that have sites with electricity. Brae Island by Fort Langley is slso powered. If you are looking at a river site without all the amenities except water, check out Derby Reach too.

Hey there BCx213....

Thanks for the congrats and the advice. We've been loving the trailer, just in our driveway. First camp is May long weekend so should be fun for the kids. It'll be a lot of dry camping this summer since we booked not knowing a trailer was in our future. We're going down south for the coast and hopefully electrical hookups will be easier to come by. Porteau Cove looks beautiful. I've never stayed there before, just Alice lake up that way. I know nothing about private camping sites so that's my next area of research. Any good bc camping/rv sites you'd recommend?

I'm not too worried about being able to fire up the A/C but I would like the microwave to work and TV/video game ameneties . With that, I think i'll look at the honda 2000w or maybe the champion 2000w at costco since return policy protects me if it can't push enough juice.

Thanks again
Steph

We have a 2010 EXP213. I have pretty well had the same experience as BCx213. I have two of the Champion 2000 inverter generators with a parallel kit. I found that even with the parallel kit the two champions won't run my air conditioner at any kind of altitude. The 3000 watt Champion wasn't available when I purchased mine. I switched my lighting out to LED's and that made a difference in battery life, but the best change I've made was to switch the original little battery out to a group 31. It's too bad that the X213 just does not have enough room to mount two batteries without major modification.

Hi Steph, we are headed up to Golden Ears for the May long weekend, it is a great camp ground that is close by. Lightning Lakes in Manning Park is a good one but you need to reserve to get in there. Very beautiful lake, Cultus is okay, but too busy for my liking. RCMP are present during long weekends which pretty much explains it. There is a campsite there called Sunnyside that is privately run. Popular but no privacy. Porteau Cove is right off the Sea to Sky....has power, drawback is hwy noise and a train track so you will have trains going by from time to time.
