Generator

Have yet to get a generator, so I thought I'd throw this question out...Honda 2000 or Honda 3000?

Read this whole thread. You will learn more than you ever wanted to learn about Generators, A/C, hard start capacitors, etc. Mostly at my expense.

I'd say that if you have a 13,500 btu AC, I'd get a hard start capacitor and a Yamaha 2400 watt. Second choice, I'd get a Honda 2000. 3000 watt is just too big to lug around.

If AC is important then twin EU2000 would be my choice. If you don't need AC then a single would be perfect. 3000 is just more than I want to manage.

The weight of the EU3000is is significant. It is also the class leader in sound. Choices choices choices. I made mine. I put a wheel kit on the EU3000is and I ramp it up to the back of the truck. It lives there while we camp. Done.

Ok thank you everyone! AC is NOT a consideration, so based upon all that I've learned we will go with one 2000. I really appreciate all the advice!

If you are going w/ the EU2000, get the companion model. It has the RV 30 amp twistlock electronics built into it. Your trailer will plug directly into the EU2000i Companion without needing a separate dogbone.

If AC is not a consideration, you can buy a 53db 2000 watt champion for about $400. They are equally as quiet as the honda 2000 watt is. They don't have the same specs. Champion will not handle the loads that the Honda will. Honda can handle surges for 30 minutes. Champions will only handle 2000 watt surges for a few seconds... But as long as your needs are under 1700 continous watts, than Champion makes a good match.

I have the Champion 2000 watt and for the most part it works for our needs....but I have gone ahead and purchased a Honda 300o, that one is going to stay in the truck because it is heavy to lift by myself.

I wouldn't trade my 3000 for anything else.

Me neither. Quiet, ample power for 30 amp trailers. I'd rather have extra capacity than not enough. Plus, when I put the coffee pot on in the morning (once quiet hours have passed) my generator is not racing up to the top end of its limits; the EU3000is barely jumps over Eco mode to accommodate. Nice and quiet.

I have a Yamaha ef2000is, quiet, brushless inverter, start on first pull, even if it's been sitting there for 4 month with old gas (had a power failure at home two weeks ago).

Honda or Yamaha, you're call, I bring it camping and never use the AC, never even been close to getting out of eco mode.

Considered going with the Honda 3000 but chose the 2000 because of weight. We have yet to need more than what the 2000 can deliver but bought the 2nd 2000 for when we need the 30A output. The 2000's are so convienent in size and weight and QUIET!!

I have a Honda 3000, will it power everything on my 165 sport? AC as well as any other appliances that I may run? Will I need to limit what appliances I use together or will it handle it? It is huge and to heavy but my parents bought it for the farm and I'm hoping to "borrow" it now that I have a camper should the need arise.

That 3000 puts out 23.3 AMPS -- shore power is 30AMP. To get maximum power to the TT you will need to plug into the 30AMP locking plug on the honda not the 20AMP household socket. Potentialy you would need to limit what is running at once, but 23.3AMPs is quite a lot for TT usage. Issued would likely come with multiple high current draws -- Microwave, AC, HairDryer, Heater, etc. You would likley be fine running 1 or 2 high current items plus TV, Radio, Lights and never have an issue.

Good deal. I checked it out yesterday and noticed it has the 23.3 plug which doesn't appear to be the same size as my 30 amp camper hookup. I guess they make a pig-tail adapter or something to plug it in? We didn't buy the generator for the camper, we had it before I got into camping.

Incorrect information.

The generator has a twist lock receptacle. The camper is NOT a twist lock. An adapter IS required. The dogbone type is best.

By twist lock receptical are you saying that the 23.3 plug is a three prong with one of the prong's having a tab that keeps you from plugging it in incorrectly? That's what mine looks like.

Do all 3000's have electric start?

The twist lock on the generator has a tab as you describe. The camper plug is NOT that type. The difference is obvious by just looking at the plug and receptacle.

Not all 3000 watt generators are electric start.
The Honda EU3000iS is electric start. The EU3000i Handi is recoil only.
