HELP Please!! Lights out!

We just picked up our new trailer today. My husband had the lights on inside and was only hooked up to battery. He was bringing in the slide and suddenly he heard a click and all the lights went out. What did he do????

I'm not familiar with your trailer, but there are a few questions that may help.

Can you still operate the slide?

Does anything using 12volt power work?

Are you plugged into campground power?

Are you plugged into your tow vehicle and have the vehicle engine running?

Have you checked all the circuit breakers and fuses?

Knowing some of the above will help troubleshoot the problem.

No to slide
No to anything working with 12V
No to being plugged into campground (just brought it home)
Yes, still attached and plugged into TV although it was not running at time
Checked circuit breakers but not fuses yet.

Sounds like a 12v wire got pinched by the slide. You need to find that before replacing the fuse or it will just blow again. Good luck, should be simple enough to fix, just hard to see sometimes.

There should be a main fuse by your battery in the TT. Don't forget to look there to see if it has blown.

Thank you, I have been reading and keep coming back to that but I have not found that fuse yet. On the battery, on the A Frame somewhere or inside the front of trailer?? What does it look like?

Is that normal for it to blow when operating the slide when only lights are on in trailer? We have dual batteries hooked up and confirmed that they are not reversed.

If you heard a "click", sounds like you may have heard a breaker tripping. There should be a breaker ahead of the converter. If you pinched a wire with the slide, it probably overloaded the converter and caused the breaker to trip. Just speculation.

IT will come off the positive side of the battery. it's probably a bladed inline 30 amp fuse.

Yes the fuse is inline and off of the positive wires.

Found the fuse. Now off to the auto supply to find a replacement (or several) and a multimeter...Any thing else I need while I'm there?

There are fuses in your converter as well. Make sure you get the right sizes for both just in case

The converter is the main power box inside the TT where the AC circuit breakers are located. There are DC fuses there as well

many converters also have fuses in the side of them. They are located behind the fuse panel/circuit breaker panel inside the trailer. To find these, you would have to remove the cover from the fuse and circuit breaker panel, then remove the fuse and circuit breaker panel itself. There will be very little room to work around the wire harness but the harness will lead you to the converter itself.

Replaced the fuse at the battery and all seems to be well. Lights are back on. Lesson learned not to run slide on battery at least when anything else is on.

Looked for this mysterious converter by the circuit breaker and fuse panel and did not see anything. Removed cover and nothing looked like it should be removed so didn't try.

Generally I believe the slide should be one of the first things out and the last thing in. So in that case you won't have much else running. But keep spare fuses on hand. When you picked up your rig the dealer should have reviewed the circuit breaker/fuse box with you as well as that main fuse. It is a shame that some just smile and wave.

Glad everything works. Once I park my TT and have it leveled left and right, I will usually unhitch my TV and move it just enough to leave the TT plugged in and the safety chains connected while I get the unit leveled front to rear. Then I will snug the stabilizer jacks. Then I step inside and run my slide out. I do this with the TV running at idle the entire time. When I go to hook up I do the process exactly in reverse.

Well, they definitely did not show us the main fuse but they did show us the circuit breaker and fuses inside the trailer. It was all very overwhelming. I had the PDI checklist from this forum with me but had to abandon it. We had the kids with us but that couldn't be avoided. The dealer actually spent a couple of hours with us for the walk through and then even more time back and forth with us in the parts department getting us situated. They threw in the hitch installation for free too! I was very happy with our service. I think a lot of it will have to come from experience unfortunately.

Well I am glad to hear your up and running again. That main fuse is a pretty important thing as you have learned. Good luck with everything else, stay in touch.

If the battery was not fully charged it could also cause a higher than normal draw on the battery. It's best to have the shore power connected or if boon docking plug it back into the tow vehicle and have the engine running when moving the slide.

We just returned from our trip and unfortunately that same fuse blew two more times when plugging or unplugging from the generator. Doesn't seem like that should happen. Called dealer and they said to bring it on in for them to investigate.

On the bright side we love the trailer and the layout works well for our family. The only thing besides this hopefully temporary fuse issue that we didn't like is the trailer shake when the kids are in their bunks up front and they move around it shakes the whole trailer and hard for us to sleep in our rear slide bed in the back. Saw another post about that so will go look it up. Hopefully I will find some way to minimize it.
