Hot water and showers

Guys I'm pickn up 17z this week need to know once I light yhe pilot in the back for the hot water n shower is the general rule of thumb to shut the pilot off after hot shower and after you use the sink for hot water purposes? How long does it take for the hot water to heat up? New at this n I'm sure the sales guy will go over it at demo but he doesnt seem to knowledgable? Does the Propane hav to be on also? Prob a dumb question but I hav to find out one way or another?

Proably a half hour during summer months to get up to temp. If plugged in to shore power you can leave it on strictly electric to save propane.

Some use both in combo for showers to keep up with demand on 5 gal heaters then go back to elect for standby. The only pilot I know that is manual is the stove, all others should be electronic, 12v. Fridge, heaters and hot water heaters should self light upon start up. You could however get airlock and should run your stove top first to prime the system when stored or shut off for a period of time. After a certain amount of failed attempts it will not light until the switch is reset.

I have to light the pilot on my water heater and it has no electric element (gas only). But I turn it on after setting up at a site (when I remember to light it - usually when my wife asks why there is no hot water). This also implies, correctly, that I remember to shut it off about 5 min after leaving the camp site.

It will take about 30 minutes or so to heat the water. It takes a lot of energy to heat the water from cold to hot. If you are going to use it several times a day (showers, washing hands, washing dishes, etc) it is better to just leave it on. If you are going only use hot water once a day or less often, then I would turn it off.

we have new 17Z and on the two trips we've taken, we lit the pilot on the water heater when we got there and just left it on til the morning we left. Since we had filled with well water at the park and didn't plan on using it again for a month, we drained it when we got home.(there is a thread discussing pros and cons of draining the water heater) Ours is propane only, no choice.

Our old trailer was propane only, (the electric side didn't work). Once I would light it, it stayed on until we left.
