ideas for a ladder
anyone have a floor plan with bunks with out a kid ladder? my 6 year old loves his new bunk but I need a way for him to get up and down on his own. any ideas? I don't want a big eye sore sitting in the trailer always in the way, I though about a ladder on the bathroom door but not sure if its strong enough. I have a 23K jay feather with triple bunks any ideas? thanks.

You might consider a six foot step ladder that you could attach with bungy cords (using a towel or stick-on insulation strips to keep the ladder from scratching the bed frame). Store the ladder outside the trailer when not in use and transport it either by wrapping it in an old quilt or comforter, etc., and placing it on the floor or a placing in the back of your tow vehicle if you are towing with a pickup or strapping it on top of the tow vehicle if you have luggage racks or even strapping it beneath the trailer and hope it doesn't get dirty.
You might also consider going to a resale store that carries furniture--for example Goodwill and Salvation Army stores sometimes have extra bunk bed ladders that were not sold with bunk beds.

PVC pipe ladder
Attached is a photo (albeit a little grainy) of our solution to the same problem. Made with PVC pipe and connectors from Home Depot. Simply glued together and works great for the kids and I have had no problem climbing on it when necessary. Good Luck.

Might want to use Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 for added strength.

Lilamigo, I know it's been a while since you posted this picture, but I was wondering how you fastened the ladder to the top bunk? Your picture looks like my bunk layout of my Jayco 213 and I need a ladder for my son to get to the top bunk.

ETBULL.... Should look like your bunk layout as it is also a 213. To fasten the top I put a right angle piece on the top with another right angle immediately attached making a "hook" at the top. Fastened them together with a piece of pipe the same length as both the connectors. That make sense? Not too good with the "technical" terms...

Round steps on bare feet are not very comfortable. We had a motorhome with round steps and just one trip up to the over head sleeper was enough for me. I found a small wood ladder with flat steps.

We just got a Swift 154 & this [see attachment] is what I did to solve the kid/bunk problem. Though I *do* like the look of the PVC arrangement....

We use a plastic milk carton container to get to the top bunk.... turned upside down. When not in use we store gear in it.
