For this year I purchased Swagmans (2) Bike Rack which we will use as a lightweight and versatile platform for Bikes (or) Tote (or) Wet Outdoor Mats....etc. By removing the spare tire from the bumper and going "minimalistic" with the rack and (2) aluminum bikes - the net add was only 35# on the bumper....except now the weight is distributed across the length of the bumper.
Having the option to carry bikes (without adding a lot of weight) this camping season is a big victory for us....
I know it hasn't been very long, but have you had a chance to use this setup yet? It might be just the ticket for us, but I'm VERY hesitant to put ANYTHING on the back bumper... I would never know it was gone until I got there...
I have the bumper setup. I have the same RV bumper receiver hitch on my camper. I have a 4 bike carrier that I use, though historically I've only put 2 full sized bikes and one little kid bike bike. This year both of my kids have full size bikes so I'll be using the same method of transport, but I'll be going to town with the bumper adding extra steel and gussets. With 2 full sized bike it handled it good. I just moved the spare over, but I am considering relocating the spare to the tongue under the battery.

How is it working out pulling the 28BHBE with your 1500 GMC? I have ordered a 27DSRL and I am concerned about overloading my 2012 Chevy 1500 w/towing package
