Nearly lost the AC unit.

A couple of times, I noticed that water dripped out of the AC cover inside, right after a rain. Hmm, best look into that. I got snooping and found that two of the long, skinny bolts that hold everything together had worked loose, and the top and bottom parts of the AC unit had separated, letting water in around the gasket on the roof.

It was quite a performance finding this all out and had to take a few things off to get at the bolt heads. When I got it all back together and tightened, the squirrel cage on the outside part was making a noise. One of the long bolts was just catching the cage and making a terrible noise. I had to remove a tin cover on the roof unit, then I pried the bolt over a bit - no more noise.

It might be wise to take a look at your AC unit. I am not sure why this one would have come loose, but it did. Luckily, it only dripped a bit, right on the floor in front of the stove.

Other than that, I have had the trailer out four times, and had a great time.

I was fearing I'd open this tread and hear a disaster story of a low overhang making contact with your roof mounted A/C unit. Glad to hear you avoided a costly mishap.

After reading the thread on loose bolts, I checked my NEW rig and found 2 of 4 bolts were loose from the factory. I did not have any leaks, just preventative from hearing all the talk about it.

Two questions if you remember:

Were the two bolts that were loose diagonally opposite each other?

How loose were the two bolts? Just slightly, or as some have reported, about 1/2 inch shy of even touching the flange they tighten against?

They were diagonally opposite and not even finger tight. I only tightened them enough to make them snug, just enough to compress the gasket. not ratcheted down.

The AC units on RVs sit on a square foam rubber gasket...the weight of the AC unit will cause the gasket to settle or squish, it is always best to check these bolts every season, the bolts were tightened at the factory but settling will cause them to be loose. Don't torque these bolts, just snug them up or damage to the gasket will occur. That's one little detail that they don't tell you to check.

Mine were both on one end, can't recall which end, and they were really loose. The bolts didn't seem to be all that easy to turn, so as to cause them to turn by themselves, but....
