Opinions of whitehawk 28dsbh

Okay folks I have been going back and forth trying to decide on the White Hawk 28DSBH or 29SQB. Took my wife and 2 sons (ages 4 and 6) today to look at both. We went in both of them at least a half dozen times trying to compare and they decided they liked the 28DSBH the best. So, for you 28DSBH owners out there, can you tell me your likes and dislikes about this unit, please just honest opinions. My TV is in my signature line and I do NOT have the max tow just the regular tow package. My payload capacity is 1140 lbs. and I plan on getting the Reese Dual Cam WDH.

I have already sent a PM to Crewmaniacs since I noticed he posts quite a bit.

Thanks in advance.

Gary

I'd much rather get the 28DSBH over the 29SQB. The 29SQB only has a shallow slide in it while the 28DSBH has the deep slide. It makes a world of difference.

The bunk house in the 29SQB is nice and the outside kitchen is a nice touch. The downside is NARROW beds. Narrow beds may be fine for little kids but as they grow older then a wider bed is probably a better idea, especially with boys. With only 2 kids you don't need the extra beds that the 29SQB has either.

The 28DSBH also has outside bathroom access. I think this is a great feature so that you don't have to walk through the entire trailer to use the bathroom.

With all that said, I would be comparing the 28DSBH to the 28BHBE if I was in your position. The 28BHBE has built in steps to get to the top bunk and it also has a cool little bench area to hang coats and to sit to put on shoes.

cm11599ps, thanks for your input. I do like the 28BHBE but it has a dry hitch weight of 665 lbs and the 28DSBH has a dry hitch weight of 590 lbs. I think I will be too close or over the payload of my TV, which is 1140 lbs if I chose the 28BHBE by the time I load the TT and TV for camping. And I really like the look and feel of the White Hawk. We are ready to pull the trigger on the 28DSBH, just waiting on the dealer to give us a quote. I really appreciate your comments.

Not a problem, I understand. My brother has the 28DSBH and loves it. My parents just bought the 26RLS because they wanted to big rear window with chairs in the back. There is a White Hawk that has the big window and chairs but it has a pass through bathroom which my parents weren't thrilled about. If Jayco made the 26RLS floorplan in the WhiteHawk line then they would have purchased that.

Have you considered the 31DSLB? We originally ordered the 28 but when the dealer had issues finding stock (we were facing a minimum of 2-3 months to get 1 from Jayco) they offered us the 31DSLB for a discounted price. Let me tell you it was the best decision we have ever made with a trailer. (this is our 3rd and finally or last trailer in 5 years...at least until the kids leave home)
The extra seperate rear room for the kids is simply wonderful and makes a huge difference...along with the extra slide for storage of all their clothing etc. It has 3 bunks and they get their own couch that also converts to a bed.
The dining window is 10" larger and you gain the larger u shaped dinnette (or free standing is an option)
We also have a 2011 Ecoboost with the 3.73s...odd how your payload is so low? My FX4 has a payload capacity of 1900lbs before options...about 17-1750ish real world.
We have the max tow package which increases payload by 440lbs or so....Do you have the max tow package? That may be why we seem to have such a large gap in payload.
I wrote a review about the 31 on here last here. The White Hawks are great units...you will be extremely pleased with whichever model you choose.
I love mine 31 and would buy another in a heartbeat....everyone that sees it simply loves it.
Camping is a large part of our lives (we spend about 50 nights out a year and I'm up in Canada where we only camp 5 months a year)
We also figured that as the kids get older this may help extend our camping time with them as they will have their own space away from us to do their own thing. Ever been trapped in a trailer for 5 days straight while it rains non-stop and everyone is in 1 room? Gets a bit stuffy no matter how close a family you are lol.
Good luck with your purchase.

EDIT *** Apologies I did not manage to read that you do not have the max tow pkg...the 31 may be a tad over your limit, sorry***

31dlsbguy, thanks for your input, it's great feedback on the quality of the White Hawk. I sent Crewmaniacs a PM on his experience with the 28DSBH due to his family size is identical to mine and he reaffirmed my decision to BUY the 28DSBH. I have searched all over the internet to see if someone had anything bad to say about the White Hawk and have found NOTHING. I have been comparing TT's for about 3 years now and keep coming back to the White Hawk, so, the 28DSBH is the one we will buy. This forum is AWESOME.

cm1159ps, the White Hawk must be a good TT since you, your brother and parents have them, WOW.

No, I think you're mistaken. lol

My brother has the 28DSBH. My parents were gonna get the 27DSRL but they didn't like the passtrough bathroom so they got the 26RLS.

Me, I don't have any TT. I'm the research guy in my family, but I get to use either TT when I want. We pretty much all go camping together anyway since we stay at the beach about 15 miles from home about 7 times a year.

So in the end, we only have one White Hawk, my brother's 28DSBH.

Talking White Hawk 28DSBH

Hello everyone. Just wanted to chime in on this post if it's not too late. We bought a White Hawk last spring.

I came into travel trailer camping kicking and screaming. My wife grew up camping in a pop-up. I did the boy scout tent camping growing up and didn't like camping. This guy is now a believer.

We took 5 trips last year, 2 dry and 3 with hookups. The only problem we had with the trailer is one cabinet door, which it looks like is not offered on the 2013. It faces the couch on the end of the kitchen counter above the two drawers. The screws were too small, and they pulled out. Dealer came last fall and put longer screws in. We'll see if that works.

My boys (6 & 7) love this trailer, and they are not so gentle. So a loose cabinet door is acceptable. We look forward to 2 weeks in DC this summer.

I ended up ordering the 28DSBH and have been out on one trip so far with no issues. My wife and I both agree that the 28DSBH was best choice for our family and I truly believe we were right, we love the extra room with the slideout.

Realizing it's only been a week, how are you liking it so far?

We have a deposit on a 2013 Jayflight 28BHBE, we were looking hard at the WH 28DSBH also. We decided on a nicely optioned 28BHBE as it has a side-by-side pantry and wardrobe (for the kids clothes), the Elite package with the 8 cubic ft fridge among other things. It is a good bit heavier then the WH though, 7000# empty with around 700# tongue weight. I am a 'fiberglass' kind of guy, so I will have to get used to the aluminum 28BHBE.

I am surprised that your payload is so low, especially for an Ecoboost truck. I guess the truck options did you in?

We have a 2012 F150 XLT 5.0 4x4 crew short bed, our payload shows as 1625#.

So far so good, I really like the White Hawk and have no complaints. Options on the Ecoboost did do me in. But, lesson learned, if my next truck is an F-150 I will make sure I get the MAX towing package. But my current F-150 pulls it fine with lots of power to spare.

Wallacemf,

Welcome to JOF

Please note: Unless the 1,625lbs was confirmed by a CAT Scale weigh-in...., keep in mind that a TV's published payload capacity is based on the "curb weight" of the TV (same goes for Tow Rating) , it doesn't reflect any TV manufacturer's options weight or passenger weight (they have to be subtracted). Then of course the remaining payload capacity must accommodate the TV's going camping cargo weight and the TT's loaded tongue weight.

I know this thread is fairly old, but just wanted to say that I have a 2007 F-150 XLT and we just purchased a 2012 31 DSLB and looking at the max weight of the TT it is still under what my truck's max tow capacity is, so it confuses me how it could be too much for an eco-boost? I have no issues towing this thing! It is at least 1000 lbs less then our last TT. We have yet to take it camping, but so far love the layout!

Lothus,

Welcome to JOF

It all depends on how your particular F-150 is configured. In most cases it's not so much the vehicles Tow Rating that is in question, but more about the "available" Payload Capacity because the loaded tongue weight is subtracted from it. Also, in many cases a vehicle may have the power to tow a particular TT, but that doesn't mean it's being done within the TV's weight limits.

I would recommend that when you get the opportunity take your TV/TT under loaded conditions and weigh it at a CAT scale. The CAT scale data will provide you with all the information you need to know (TV weights, TT weights, confirm WDH properly adjusted, etc.).

CAT scale TV/TT how-to: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3871

Hope this helps.

Bob

We purchased the 2013 28DSBH last summer. our very first trailer. NEVER CAMPED BEFORE. LOVED IT! I was only looking at trailers with two double beds for the boys (5 & 7), and am so happy we went with it. Lots of room for them, and their stuff. I didn't know if I'd like the pass thru washroom, but now its great. Also have 2011 F150 Ecoboost 4x4 with max tow. it's easy to pull (my hubby even lets me drive!) Going for four weeks this summer. Black Hills, Yellowstone & back thru Alberta & Saskatchewan. Only problem we have with it, needs a better mattress for us! We built a ladder for the bunks (was a plan on jaycoforums on modifications). Also added a shelf in the kitchen to the cupboard above the sink for more storage. Love the wide slide. makes a huge difference with two kids running around!

That's interesting as we'll be in the Black Hills and Yellowstone in July & August. I'll wave if I see a White Hawk pulled by a F150 eco. Safe travels to you and your family.
