Propane on 154 bh

I just came back from my maiden voyage and had a problem with the propane tank. I hope someone can help. When I arrived at the campground about 2pm I tried to light stove and water heater. It would light for several seconds and go out, this went on all night. Suddenly, at 8:30 this morning everything came on perfectly. Any ideas about what was going on?

Wondering Beagle,

Welcome to the Jayco forums

It sounds like there was air in the lines and needed to work itself out. This can happen if an RV sits for an extended period of time and the LP hasn't been used, but in most cases will correct itself after a few minutes and a couple of attempts to ignite. Also confirm that the dealership gave you a full tank of LP.

If it continues to be problematic, take it back to the dealership.

Bob

I agree with Bob, probably air in the system. The dealer should have used all the appliances and checked for proper flame, leaks, etc. They must have taken a short cut or two.

We have the same TT, we have not used it yet, how do you like it other than the problem you had with the propane?

There is a valve in the threaded connector that will prevent a free-flow in case of a burst line. Opening the tank valve quickly may cause the valve to close. I wound up with a "no gas" situation due to this. Disconnect the pig-tail and bang it around may reset the valve. I also have a spare pig-tail due to thsi.
Just a thought.

Please check all connections from LPG supply tanks, to 2 stage regulator, from regulator to main gas line & verify all connections are tight. Pour hot water on outside of tanks and verify that you can feel with your hand, the change in temp. on the outside of the tank walls the colder area is where the liquid Propane is and should be about 80% of the tank height for a full tank. Shut all other appliances that use LPG off and light only one of the top range burners. When this burner lights and stays lit, you should have purge any ambient air from the lines. You can then start all other gas fired appliances one by one and verify ignition & operation.

That sounds like a good logical process, STELLARJAY. Welcome to the Jayco Owner's Forums.

Thanks for all the info, I think I had air in the lines and didn't know it. Hopefully, next time I will know what is happening and follow the advice everyone has given me. Overall, I love the trailer and had a great maiden voyage at Jellystone Canyon Lake (near San Antonio). The employees went out of their way to help me get set up and get safely back on the road the next day. Can't wait until Friday when I am going to another park.

When this happens turn on the stove top hold a BBQ lighter (long handle) to the burner and wait... it may take 2 or 3 min for the gas to get there but after that the line is charged...

Like Seann said, that is what we had to do in our fifth-wheel. Lots of line to have air in. We would turn on the stove and hold the BBQ lighter there. Sometimes took a good long 3 minutes.
