Propane price on average
Guys I was shocked today by the price charged by Camping world in Orlando even if I include the 25% rebate that you can get on Tuesday and Wednesday. I've been charged $13.49 for 4.7 gal the regular price would have been $18.28 !!! more than twice of what I pay back home at costco in canada ( nearby Montreal ) . So what is the average price you pay for those very common BBQ tank of 20 pounds ?
Is this CW that is much more expensive ?
I wonder if we finnaly managed get one thing cheaper in canada ? that would be the first time for me

A 20lb propane grill tank fill up runs between $18-20 here in central Massachusetts.
I think I paid $18 last time I had one filled a few months ago.

I don't remember exactly, but I think I had TWO filled for around that price a few months ago. I remember thinking how good a deal it was compared to exchanging the tanks. I paid about the same amount to have 2 tanks filled as I would have paid to have 1 exchanged. Around here, that's about $20.
Filling was a MUCH better deal anyway; turns out I got A LOT more gas for my money.

About 16.00 here for a 20lb refill. Propane did not come down in price in line with gasoline, diesel and home heating oil at least not here. And I have to wonder why since LP gas stands for liquified petroleum so it comes from crude oil?

$1.79 lb at a number of places here in Phoenix area. At 4.7 gallons in a 20 lb tank that comes to about $8.50.

At Quartzsite I was paying $1.79 per gallon. I filled an empty 7 gallon tank here in Moab yesterday and it cost me $23.73, which comes out to $3.39 per gallon. I think that propane price is all about distance from refineries and type of clientele (frugal snowbirders or spend-thrift tourists). Basically, businesses usually charge just as much as the market can bear, unless they're selling cheap propane as a loss leader to bring customers in.

Your discounted price isn't bad, our local Tractor Supply is always the cheapest for refills. They are charging $2.50 a gallon times your 4.7 equals $11.75, Camping Worlds regular price at $18.28 is a ripoff, but when you need it you have to pay the going local rate.

I haven't filled any tanks yet this year. Last year I paid $15 for the normal 20lbs and $0.81 per l for tanks larger then 20. We used a 100lbs for last summer and only had to fill it once to run furnace / stove and fridge from May 15th to September 15th.
Kind Regards;
Ingo

Just about a week ago I refilled 3 20# tanks at a nearby campground. Tax and all was $57.23. I guess that's under a buck a pound.

Camping world and campgrounds in general over charge for propane. I found it to be half the price at Tractor Supply stores. Even a local propane place if the area has one. I always google before I need to fill. I can fill both my 30 pounders for $28 at the local propane place.

That's about $4.15 a gallon. Propane is about 4.2 pounds per gallon.

I'm not sure of the price - but I like buying my propane at Tractor Supply. They only charge for what you need to top off a tank. Just my 2 cents worth.

I think your calculations are off. A gallon of propane weighs 4.2 pounds, so with 4.7 gallons in a 20 lb tank @ $1.79/lb the cost would be just over $35.

Tractor Supply is one of my favorite propane stops, as well, but haven't filled up there lately.
I'm wintering in the Texas Hill Country, and the park I stay at sells propane for about what they charge in town. I've been paying about $18.40 to fill a 30# tank. (Paid $29.80 at Camping World last summer!)

Most of us spend more on ice than on propane. On a recent 6 week trip south I purchased 2 exchange bottles at a total cost of $40. We ran the furnace on many nights and the fridge for 4 days while boondocking. I spent an estimated $750 on fuel and about the same on CG fees. My wife use to say that I am a penny pincher [not so much anymore] but even I have learned not to fuss about insignificant expenses.
I spent more on a boat trip on the riverwalk and lunch in San Antonio than on propane for the whole trip.

I don't like spending money that I don't have to. Costco's propane prices for members are extremely competitive, and they only charge for the gas they actually put in the tank. And it's only about a mile from my house. Wish I could find the current propane price without going over there, but that's the way to save $$$ for me. I would only go to a campground filling station, or Camping World, if I absolutely had to - I think it's a safe assumption that you pay a premium for the campground propane, especially.
