replacement part shipping

We lost a fender skirt on a long trip and it wasn't covered on warranty so I asked the dealer for a price for a replacement.

Here's the breakdown: "The revised part cost $55.78 + handling fee $9.95 + freight $150.00 + tax $17.25 = $232.98

I'm a little shocked, is this normal?

It has to be shipped commercial freight, can't be done with UPS. Also it probably requires a wood crate frame work to prevent damage.

Why not UPS? The plastic fenders are not that large and are certainly not heavy.

Should have said standard UPS.

Once it's packaged it probably falls into their commercial freight rates which is 90lb minimum no matter what it actually weighs. Their commercial rates start once package exceeds 130 inches. They use 2 x the width plus 2x the length to calculate the size.

I recall reading about a week ago or so that a guy {Bassdogs I think} had to replace his fender skirt from a blowout. I think he contacted these guys Parts Department | World Wide RV | Mesa Arizona and he paid $115. You might want to give them a call or fill out their online request form.

As a UPS driver, I can tell you for sure that we would ship that for you on a standard package car, not freight. I am assuming that you are referring to the plastic skirt. We deliver max weight of 150 lbs. Anything over that would be considered freight.

I am surprised they didn't cover that under warranty. On my second trip last summer I arrived back home to find the access cover for the HWT gone, took a picture sent it to my salesman and a new one arrived from Jayco in about 10 days. I would take a few closeup pictures to show you didn't hit anything causing the fender skirt to come off and send it to your dealer.

Bassdogs posted this last month, he replaced the fender skirt on a 2014 White Hawk for $115 shipped.

Just ordered from Worldwide RV, Jayco direct for $80 plus shipping. Shipping is direct from the Jayco warehouse in In and it ships directly to my home address. Very easy to work with this site. Called and rep sent me a scale drawling to confirm the part. All I needed to give them was the vin and of course my credit card info. In stock and ships in 2 days.

Didn't say ship as freight I said "Freight rates", which is what I've experienced in the past. Once over the 130" its 90 lb min rate plus oversize surcharge.

Sorry... a bit off topic... I tried to get Jayco to send me a dvd player (Furrion) and they said they would have to send it to my dealer, only. Dealer said the only way they'd work with me is for me to bring it to them. I even offered to just take out the Furrion unit and bring it to them... but nope. Furrion issued a problem number but said by their contract I'd have to go through Jayco who said dealer so... I trekked across DFW today towing my camper... and left it for 2 to 3 weeks... which probably really means 4 to 6... ... I hate to say this on the Jayco forum, but Forest River was easier to deal with. That being said, I'm still not sorry I bought the Jayco.

I think its more your dealer not willing to work with you than Jayco. My dealer is 140 miles away and I have had three warranty claims, first the mattress fell apart so they shipped me a new one, then the HWT access door fell off on the freeway somewhere and they shipped a new one. At the end of this summer I noticed the paint was chipping off the top of the entry door face, I sent the salesman a few pictures and about a month later I received not only the door but also a new door jamb, I just had to drive 10 miles to pick it up a huge box at UPS freight. I didn't have to return any old parts to the dealer, they said they toss most replacement items in the trash and only a few items have to be returned to Jayco for credit.

Looking at this and seeing that Jayco and your dealer cooperated with you completely, makes me wonder if it would work out that way today... I wonder if the recent buy-out of Jayco by Thor has changed their policies and I just had problems at the wrong time. My previous TT got broken into and FR cooperated and dealt with me directly, and sent me a door and the graphics package. From that experience I was surprised that Jayco wouldn't play ball at all. I had seen where Furrion had shipped directly to warranty customers, too, but wouldn't ship to me. My guess is that new policies and management from Thor has put the kibosh on their formerly good customer service...

I had a skirt piece on out Skylark damaged from a tire tread separation. I decided to replace it. My local dealer wanted to do the work, but I declined. I contacted Jayco and they would not sell the part to me, but they gave me the name of a different dealer some distance from me. I talked to the parts department there and they ordered the part and had it shipped direct to me from Jayco. Due to the length of the part, it had to be shipped via freight. The shipping charges were more than the cost of the aluminum skirt. It took me less than 15 minutes to replace the part.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I apologize for not getting back sooner. Just put a request online to World Wide RV for the part.

Warranty wasn't covered as the trailer was used, but hardly at all.

I'll post the results when I hear back from WW RV. I can somewhat understand my dealer's perspective but find it unusual that a dealer thousands of miles away would be more responsive.

Once you get a part number check Amazon, they have some fender skirts and also free shipping.

Here's another place to order on line. They were happy to work with me, ordered the parts I needed, and shipped to the house.

I read somewhere that someone needed a long replacement part for their trailer. Their dealer had the Jayco factory lay the replacement part inside of a new trailer that the dealership had ordered. When the unit arrived they called the customer that ordered the part. Dont know if this would work but it is an idea.

Asked and was told can't do it.

Very satisfied with the service from Jayco Service Parts and
World Wide RV. Had fit talked to Scott from WW RV in Arizona, told him I would also be calling Jayco Parts Direct. He told me that they would be selling to him and direct ship to me from IN. Sure enough, I talked to Chuck at Jayco and ordered the fender skirt from him and it was invoiced from WW RV. Maybe a little unusual but it works for me. Price to my door was $110.16 vs $232.98 from the dealer I bought the trailer from. Shipping costs are the biggest variable, got lucky I guess, the estimate was from 50 - 100. Actually paid $29.84, delivered today!
