Storing sewer hose in bumper

While going threw our demo the dealer told us not to store the sewer hose in the rear bumper because it could cause it to rust out. Yet the manual states you can store it there.
Anyone have a bumper rust out? Other options for storage?

Might rust out in 10 to 20 years. Winter salty roads would make it rust out quicker...

Some folks store it in a PVC pipe.

Bumper. My bumper end caps have holes in them so just driving in rain will make it wet in there, can't really see the argument that a slightly wet sewer hose will make it any worse.

It is possible, but not likely anytime soon.... What could happen is the sewer hose can get holes in it from rubbing against the inside of the bumper, and also possibly from what rust does form. Also, some of the sewer hose fittings don't fit or are very difficult to get inside the bumper.

To prevent this a lot of us have gone to a form of pvc or vinyl tubes of some sort. Mounted to the top/ bottom of the bumper, or like I did under the trailer if you look in my signature mods link. The 5" vinyl fence post sleeve also allows you to have a 4" u shaped gutter inside as a "tray". The tray can also double as a sewer hose support while camping. I have one almost the width of the trailer, and another I cut in half for two shorter supports. Fit inside with the sewer hose just fine. My fence post sleeve mod is mounted a little more stout than normal due to having a 7' GPL folding ladder inside one of the tubes.

I still use the bumper for storage. I cut down a 4" u gutter for use as a tray, and mounted a piece of 2x4 in the middle as a stopper. On one side is all the hot dog forks, and the other side is the fire tongs and poker.

I have mounted a 4" vinyl fence post cut the length of the bumper. Clamped with ratchet tie down straps. Painted the fence post black to match the black bumper. Vented end caps from etrailer.com, the kind that have the clamp and fish line attached. Agree the bumper may not ever rust through, just did this to save the hoses. Using Valterra viper hoses and the end caps fit with not problems. Mounted the fence post on top of the bumper. Bought a large square clamp at Tractor Supply to elevated the post slightly above the metal bumper to match the elevation caused by the bracket holding the spare tire on the 27 dsrl.

Still storing my RhinoFlex in the bumper, but when I uncovered it after winter and starting getting it prepped again I found that it was very difficult to get the hose out of the bumper due to the rust build-up. It was sort of stuck - and that was after just one season of use. So I've scrubbed the inside of the bumper out with a wire brush and naval jelly to remove the rust and applied a good coat of Rustoleum. The finish is very smooth, almost like it's been waxed, and any moisture that gets inside just beads up. After each trip I pull the hose out and let it air out for a day or two.

I store my RhinoFlex in a SUPER-SLIDER Adjustable SUPER-TUBE that I bought here:

i did what ttavasc did. I painted the inside of the bumper with Rustoleum. I did that also on my previous 2 rigs. Works fine.

Still storing my Rhinoflex in the bumper after nearly 7 years.

I used a hand-held 1" x 3" stainless steel stripping brush fastened to the end of paint roller extension pole using real duct tape (not that crappy plastic stuff...) to scrub with the naval jelly. Then used a 4" interior trim paint roller on the other end of the paint roller extension pole to apply the paint. The 4" wide roller just happens to be 3 7/8" wide so a perfect fit inside the bumper.

Actually I wasn't too careful about cleaning out the inside of the bumper. I cleaned it a bit but didn't really scrub out the rust. Rustoleum supposedly can be applied directly over rust. It worked fine on my last rig and so far so good on this one. I used the same trim roller as ttavasc to apply the Rustoleum.

I store a folding aluminum ladder in the bumper, hose in storage box mounted to bumper.

I think it depends where you live. We stored ours in the bumper living up north where it's frozen 6 months a year for 7 years without issue. Here on the coast where it's damp all winter and rarely frozen the bumper was full of rust after 1 year.

Don't store the sewer hose in there on this trailer for that reason.

You keep yours a long time!! We bought our current one in March and looking to downsize already.

I spray WD-40 in the bumper a couple times a year. this is my fourth RV and never had a problem.

You guys are really creative - but that's just too much work for me. I stored my hose inside the bumper on my previous TT for 20+ years with no problems and never really noticed any rust.
But like someone else said - it's probably somewhat environment dependent.
