Weight Distribution Hitch for 19H...Help

With a tongue weight around 500lbs and 4500 GVW, would a weight distribution hitch that is rated to a 1000lbs tongue weight and 10000lbs GVW be too much for my Jayco Jay Feather 19H?

That's a beefy one for sure-- but if they are around the same price go big-- wont hurt it, and you wont ever need to upgrade.

I got the 800/10,000 Drawtite set-up, and my JayFlight is only 5500lbs loaded and ready.
My tongue weight is only 570 (I got two 6 volts up front). In fact I have to go all the way down to the third chain link to even get any weight on the front-- I used to tow with a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it really made a big difference, I'm thinking it will help your rig too.

So to make a long story short go big-- it wont hurt.

There are lots of opinions about buying "oversized" weight dist hitches. If you're considering an Equal-i-zer brand, you might want to check out the towing section of hybridexplorer.com as there's a recent thread about this exact same topic.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like there are some differing opinions about oversizing the WDH, but as long as it is set up correctly, it should be ok. I read that Progress, Inc. recommended a tongue weight of at least 300lbs for their 1000/10000 WDH. Since my total should easily exceed 500 lbs with all the gear, I should be ok.

I did end up ordering a 1000/10000 WDH Round Bar setup from Ultra Fab. I know there are better brands out there, but ended up cheaping out a little.

I have the same trailer and went for the big boy 10,000. No problems yet!!

I realize that this is a year old thread, but a word of caution:

Confirm that there isn't any WDH size restriction sticker on the 19H A-frame, some Jayco models had them, don't know about the new models. If one loaded the 2008 19H to its GVWR (4,750lbs) the recommended loaded tongue weight range would be 475lbs to 712lbs (10%-15%). So a 600lb WDH would be fine, a 800lb WDH would more than cover max loaded weight conditions.

The proper WDH adjustment process becomes a little more critical when using over rated WDH's on lite-framed trailers.
