wf8735-p converter voltage alway 13.6v

I have this 35amp converter in my TT WFCO WF8735P WF-8735-P Brown 35 Amp RV Trailer Power Center Converter Charger Camper Trailer RV

it's suppossed to be a 3 stage converter, but it's always giving out 13.6v, never goes to float 13.2v, I think the battery is on it's last leg, can that make it stay in absorbsion mode?

Probably not.


"Fully Automatic" means that machine will do whatever it was engineered to do, up until the point of failure.


Trying to fool it, will drive you both nutz!

I just hope it's just the battery, and not the battery and converter. already had enough little suprises with this TT.

It is a easy change out. No need to waste another battery till you replace it. See if the company will take the old one back or give a discount on a rebuilt one.

You read about a bunch of the WFCO products NOT EVER going into smart mode charging. Most of us change them them as soon as we purchase them... Look for a SMART MODE PD or IOTA replacement model. If you are running two or more batteries or planning to get more later then you probably should get the 45A or 55A model controller/charger unit... Additional batteries will require that.

I sent an email to the manufacturer about the voltage always being the same and this is the reply I got


"You already have a high performance converter. I don't think you have no problem. 13.6 is normal output. Even if the converter was in fast charge mode you may only see the approx 13.6 or under due to the fact that voltage is proportional to the amps being drawn. The fast charge mode only charges the batteries slightly faster than the normal absorption mode of 13.6."


so voltage should be the same for float, bulk or absorption mode... yeah right!


update:
I called them up and asked clarifications on this, and what I was explained is that 14.2 only kicks in when the load is very high (so a bad battery could prevent this since it doesn't take high amps well), and that float mode will only turn on after 48 hours with no load at all (all fuses pulled) since just the CO2 detector is enough to prevent the float mode from coming on. makes sense?

Yes, it makes sense, since your DVM is reading the (huge sink) battery voltage.


Remember there is a slight line loss between the converter and the battery.


So, as long as you can measure 13.5-14.1 VDC at the battery after the RV has sat plugged in or on the generator for several hours, be comfortable with the fact that the charger is working.


Much higher? Overcharging! Charger is defective.
Much lower? faulty charger, no power to charger, etc.


Other than that, replace the battery every 5 years. Or sooner if you take it down too low too many times.
