wind chimes arrrggg

Is it me or what, I'm camping at Lake Magic resort in Clermont Fl. Very nice park, close to a bunch of activity however wind chimes are everywhere, growing like weeds, is it only me that cant stand them....all day long you can hear a constant noise like crystal glasses hitting each other day and night ....what a PIA .....

wind chimes arrrggg! It's not just you. I put them in the same category as outside televisions and outside speakers. They are a PIA.

Not a fan of the 'high frequency' ones at all.

Here at the house we have a couple of large 'single element' wind chimes that produce a low, somewhat muted gong sound. I like that kind. I'd never hang noise makers off my camper. I don't get why a lot of people get off on the 'look at me, hear me too!' mindset when camping next to others. I always think they are 'compensating' for something...

Gee, they don't really bother me much. But I'm really good at filtering out certain sounds, just ask my wife.

Seriously, after a long career in retail, I got quite adept at tuning out certain repetitive sounds. There's only so many times you can listen to the same few songs over and over again for 60 hours a week before you adapt and learn to tune it out completely.

I personally do not see the need for chimes or loud music...I camp for peace and quiet.

I have two small ones I have on my electric awning arms to keep me from hitting my head. I have never noticed them making any soumd.

I have a big one at home my dad made years ago and gave me for Christmas one year. I hung it out back from the patio roof. Within days my neighbor commented on how loud it was at night, while we were out and about. I forgot about it. A few days later I found it all wrapped up with a rope. Had a good laugh. In the spring I hung it up high in the front of the house, and I toned down the clapper.

I camp for fun. Sometimes that means a little noise. I still hate wind chimes....

the noise from wind chimes is totally useless, not even entertaining, nice maybe for a minute or two ? i dont mind reasonable noise that is coming from something serving a purpose, but noise for noise ...argggg, nothing is nicer then the sound of silence

SWMBO has a few scattered around the house. Very lovely on a summer evening with the windows open.

When camping? NEVER! The whole point is to get away from the trappings of suburban life.

When the waterfall 300'+ away is the loudest sound. We enjoy it.

We like them and have one hanging near a bedroom window. But never in a CG. Occasionally a TV outside during football season but then most campers are gone by noon or 3:30 Sun. We generally use the golden rule, we don't make noise that annoys others because we don't want to hear it either.

What I didn't say in my previous response was that I would never "waste" time putting out wind chimes while out camping. Sure, at home we have some, and our neighbors all have them, and it's fine. But while out camping, there are any number of things I'd rather be doing.

When we "setup" our campsite, it's usually just the folding chairs, maybe a table cloth at meal times on the picnic table. Every now and then we'll get out the "Little Red Campfire". Other than that, we'd rather be hiking or swimming or whatever than setting up camp for hours...

Do we have windchimes at the house? Yep, but most are hanging inside of our bay windows and used for decoration purposes. DW likes 'em that way. Do we hang windchimes when we camp? Nope, don't have any. I suppose I've heard them at campgrounds but they don't bother me. Now, if everyone in the campground had them out and they sounded like church bells going off all the time, yeah that would probably bother me especially at night. And no, I don't have a problem with church bells.

Unfortunately people tend to pick up on the "trendy" things they see others doing and next time out they have added blinking lights, flags, windchimes, rope lighting running around their patio, and the all to popular marker lights on the RV. What ever the reason, we all need to be more aware that our flash and dash maybe isn't all that popular with your neighbors. A little personal flare around your site is fine, but hanging everything you can find at Wally World or Camping World is beyond annoying.

Wind chimes don't last very long in West Texas.
Usually falling apart after a week or so. Lol

Wind chimes, outdoor speakers and television, lights that take away from the actual outdoors experience... please don't! A campfire is all the light and noise I need. I do sit out and play an acoustic guitar occasionally and sing, but again, quietly. Sometimes I'm joined by camping neighbors that like music, but we're never loud and never amplified... and I'm not offended if someone wants me to stop playing. Actually I don't know if I'd be offended or not since it's never happened... but I would stop if asked. I love a particular state park in Oklahoma. unfortunately, they added mercury vapor lights... and that really detracts from the park. Please leave your wind chimes at home, use your lights just enough to keep from injuring yourself, observe quiet hours rules, and watch TV inside. In short, have some consideration for others. The parks are more crowded than ever...

We have a hummingbird feeder that we hang up when we are camping in the mountains.... that's it. We have a wind chime on the front porch here at home, but I wouldn't consider it out camping.

I don't mind wind chimes and I love Rock n Roll music played very loud. However, I don't participate in either of those experiences out of respect to my camping neighbors .
