X17Z Single Storage Door Under Couch?

Why is it that out X17Z only has a single outside access door to get to the storage under the couch. Older models have two doors as well as a skylight over the shower.

Are those features an option or are they not offered on the newer models? For what it's worth, when i see the dual storage doors and skylight then the bunk ends have blue trim. We have gray trim.

In 2009 I saw my first 17Z at the RV show in Hershey PA. It had the 2 doors, but it did not have the skylight. Mine has both. I don't think I would have bought it, if it did not have the skylight. Too dark in the bathroom and not enough head room. Not sure why they eliminated the skylight. Is the access door longer than the trailers with 2 doors? I know they change things, hopefully improve them over time, but getting rid of the skylight is not an improvement.

Neither is getting rid of the dual doors. It's very hard to reach anything under the couch by the stove.

I wonder if they are trying to limit the amount of cargo, due to the low ccc?

Our 17 has a single door.. as far as sky light in the bathroom, we have a vent that can be opened.... is that where you're referring too? or was there another skylight on older models?

Ya, getting into the storage around is a *****.

No, we also have the vent/fan over the toilet. The skylight actually is directly over the shower. I don't know what it looks like from the inside but from the outside it just looks like a white plastic dome.

That would be awesome, we're a short family but as you know, headroom is not great, I think I'll have one installed lol

I have a 2011. It has the skylight and the double door. I don't remember this being an option, it was just how they were equipped. Its odd how they change things up. The starcraft version of the 17z has outside speakers and if I remember correctly access doors inside the trailer to more storage.

It's interesting to see the changes between the 2010 and 2012 17Z. I sure like the two access doors and don't understand why they eliminated one of them. There are several other differences...for instance the 2012 has diamond plated front, an outside shower, wallpaper boarder, 4 stab jacks (vs 2 on the 2010 model), and pleated shades instead of mini-blinds.

The 2011 also has the 4 stab jacks, and outside shower, diamond plated front, and pleated shades for the two big windows.

When I purchased my 17Z in Feb or 2010 I had the dealer install an outside shower and 2 stabilizing jacks, along with several other mods. A friend of mine purchased a 17Z about 6 weeks later. She also had the outside shower and jacks installed. The dealer removed my rectangular jacks and put 4 round jacks on my trailer so they would all match. My friend has my 2 rectangular jacks on her trailer. Some differences between out trailers (both 2010s) are I have a medicine cabinet and she had just a mirror. My bathroom door has molding to make it look like a 6 panel door. My cupboards over the sofa open up, hers open to the side. My trailer is "oak" color, hers is "cherry". My fan and light on the hood over the stove have icons showing the fan and a light. Hers are plain black. My gray water valve was way back under the trailer and the handle pointed down (I replaced it with a wire pull valve, I knew it would get caught on some road junk and damage the camper). My friends trailer has the valve at the side where it should be. Our trailer frames are different.

We just purchased a 2012 X17Z last week and took it for its maiden voyage this past weekend. While looking at all the features we discovered that there is access to the "outside" storage from inside the camper.

If you lift the sofa, like you are putting it into a bed at about a 45 degree angle of lift, you can reach under and open the sofa skirt. The sofa skirt is on a hinge, but won't open unless the sofa seat is raised slightly. This really helps to get access to the items closest to the stove.

Hope this helps.

I put "inside" items closer to the inside of the compartment and "outside" items closer to the outside wall. That way I can access the outside from the baggage doors and the inside by lifting the sofa. You can balance the sofa so you don't have to hold it.

mtn bikers-- We took out the valance, removed the fabric, installed a pce of elect tubing accross under the couch, took the valance material & installed on the tubing with "cafe clips"(2- 3 ft pcs), screwed a pce of 1"x 1" to the floor to prevent things from sliding out . Works great. Larry

Larry -

We didn't have to remove the sofa valance, it is hinged and opens up. If it didn't, then I was planning to do what you did and change it to a curtain for easiler access.

Larry - yes, we have to lift it up slightly. I could try to take a picture in the next few days to show how much to lift, but I'd estimate about 4 -6 inches.
