Sounds like a "custom" wiring job that worked for the previous owner but not when wired correctly. If your TV wiring works with other trailers then rewire your camper without touching your TV. If you do not have brakes there is no need for a seven pin harness just use a 4 pin. Trace your wires out and you will be good. By the way crimp connecters if done properly will work great.

I usually smear some silicone over the crimp connectors for added insurance. Should work fine for your set up.
