7-pole Connector Cover

Usually don't have a problem but just had the 7-pole TV to Trailer connector become corroded on the #2 line to not give power to the trailer brakes. Baking Soda and more dielectric grease solved the problem for the present but I am looking for a cover or blind plug that I can plug the trailer wire into while the trailer is not connected to the truck.

I do not want to start using baggies and duct tape to solve the moisture problem but do want something that I can simply plug the plug into on the trailer. Thought I saw one online but can't find it now.

Yes - they do make these in a molded rubber boot style. I really liked mine - but some one else liked it more.....and stole it

I take my 7 pin end and stick it up under my propane cover along with the ends of my safety chains. So far I have had no issues. Wonder if spraying then with silicon spray would help?

Why not just mount an unconnected tow vehicle trailer receptacle to the trailer A frame or battery box? That way you can plug it in when the trailer is disconnected. If the contacts are kept greased that should seal enough to help stop corrosion while in storage. I doubt anyone will steal that.

After losing a couple of the plastic ball covers to those who needed them more I now use a cut tennis ball. I haven't tried that on the larger TT ball yet.

Under the propane cover is nice idea.

Silicon spray makes things slippery, but doesn't add much corrosion resistance. I would suggest using plain old vaseline or electrical contact grease. FWIW. vic

This is the first time it has happened. I'll coat the points with dielectric greas and it is always under the Hensley so rain can't get to it but I might just need to mount the dummy TV end on the tongue and go from there.

To take the dummy tow vehicle connector one more step...

You could bring out the negative and positive leads from that dummy unit to a polarized connector for a battery charger. That way you can just connect there for a battery maintainer while in storage.

That is off the top of my little pointy head so there may be a downside to doing that which I have missed. YMMV. vic

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with applying the KISS formula. I find that regular application of Vaseline works to keep vehicle electrical contacts happy.

The question was asked so I tried to provide some options.

I have noticed one issue on my van. I've never really had a problem on my vehicles with letting my in-line 4 connector hang loose in the northeast road salt season. I have now noticed a bit of accelerated corrosion on my vehicle mounted connector over the winter. I'm thinkin' that my current trailer light converter/adapter (adaptor?) module is applying a constant DC voltage for a system monitoring mode which sets up an electrolytic action between the terminals with the connector copper and the road salt. Sorry for the meander.
